Job description

As a 2nd Level Support Network Engineer, you will play a central role at RWEST in ensuring the network infrastructure remains future-proof across the entire RWE Group, spanning more than 250 locations worldwide. To support the implementation of the company-specific network architecture and strategy, we are looking for your expertise to continuously align the network landscape with the Group's strategic objectives alongside internal and external partners and providers. You will become part of the "Service Monitoring & Control" department, which is responsible for network and network security services, including 2nd level support and Major Incident Management. The scope includes not only operations, maintenance, and support, but also the design, implementation, and continuous development of infrastructure solutions across the Group on a project basis. Your Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for 2nd level network support for internal and external customers - from incident intake through to qualified troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution.
  • Active contribution to the technical and methodological development of our network and security services - bringing your ideas directly into our service and operational processes.
  • Implementation of network security rules based on established processes and policies to ensure the secure operation of our systems.
  • Close collaboration and coordination with upstream and downstream support teams to ensure smooth communication and fast resolution of issues.
  • Planning, creation, and coordination of changes, as well as support during implementation within our production environments.
  • Creation and maintenance of system and operational documentation in line with ITIL-based processes and standards.
  • Coordination of external service providers and ensuring agreed service quality levels are maintained.
  • Support with the configuration, maintenance, and upgrade of network and security systems.
  • Shared responsibility for monitoring systems and services, including proactively initiating measures when issues are identified.
  • Participation in an on-call rota to support 24/7 operations.

Requirements

  • Completed IT-related vocational training or a comparable/higher qualification.
  • Structured, efficient, and conscientious way of working with a strong focus on quality.
  • High willingness to learn and the ability to proactively familiarise yourself with new topics and technologies.
  • Practical experience working with network management and reporting platforms.
  • Confident in setting up and configuring IP networks as well as defining and adjusting firewall rules.
  • Strong expertise in LAN, WAN, WLAN, and Zscaler technologies.
  • Good knowledge of common IP routing and switching protocols.
  • Strong goal and team orientation, as well as analytical, organisational, and conceptual skills; solution-oriented mindset with a holistic approach.
  • Solid understanding of core IT technologies and services such as DHCP, DNS, certificates, Active Directory, and common authentication methods.
  • Very good written and spoken German and English skills.

  • Initial practical experience with automation technologies (e.g. Python, Ansible).

  • ZDTA - Zscaler Digital Transformation Administrator

  • ZDTE - Zscaler Digital Transformation Engineer
