Job description
We are looking for a capable Infrastructure Engineer to join our IT team supporting a growing international organisation across the UK, Australia, Singapore, and the USA.
This is a broad, hands-on technical role covering infrastructure, cloud platforms, networking, support, and security. You will work across both operational support and improvement projects, helping maintain a stable and secure environment while contributing in areas where you can add real technical value.
Unlike heavily siloed enterprise environments, this role offers broad technical exposure and the opportunity to work across multiple areas of infrastructure and operations. You will join a small infrastructure team and work closely with senior technical staff and leadership on ongoing improvements and projects.
The environment includes on-premises infrastructure alongside Microsoft Azure cloud services, supporting secure research and data-driven systems with a strong operational and security focus.
What You'll Be Doing
Infrastructure & Cloud
- Support Windows server environments across on-prem and Microsoft Azure platforms
- Help maintain hybrid connectivity between office and cloud systems
- Support VPN connectivity, firewalls, and networking between sites and hosted systems
- Administer core Microsoft services including Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, and Exchange Online
- Support Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and virtualisation platforms including Hyper-V or VMware
- Assist with deployment and maintenance of secure remote-access and RDS environments
Security & Operations
- Assist with endpoint security, patching, monitoring, and vulnerability remediation
- Support secure remote-access environments and infrastructure standards
- Contribute towards maintaining compliance standards including ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus
- Help identify operational risks, performance issues, and opportunities for improvement
- Support stable and secure day-to-day infrastructure operations
Support & Delivery
- Handle Jira support tickets across the IT environment, taking ownership of issues through to resolution or escalation as appropriate
- Assist with infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and technical projects
- Document systems, processes, and technical recommendations clearly
- Work collaboratively while taking ownership of assigned tasks and technical issues
- Contribute ideas and improvements rather than simply maintaining existing systems, * Broad technical exposure across infrastructure, cloud, networking, and security
- Opportunity to develop technical skills in a growing international organisation
- Varied role with real involvement in projects and improvements
- Opportunity to take ownership and contribute ideas
- Hybrid working model
- Supportive technical team environment with room to grow
- Work within a secure, research-focused and data-driven organisation supporting large-scale systems and databases
Who This Role Suits
We are not expecting expertise across every area. We are looking for someone with solid technical foundations who can contribute strongly in at least one area - whether that is cloud, networking, Microsoft platforms, automation, security, or infrastructure support - while continuing to develop wider skills over time.
This role is ideal for a strong 2nd line engineer or developing infrastructure engineer looking to broaden their experience across modern IT platforms in a hands-on technical environment.
It would particularly suit someone coming from an MSP environment who has developed strong troubleshooting, customer support, and technical delivery skills across a wide range of technologies, and is now looking to take the next step into an internal infrastructure role with greater ownership and longer-term technical involvement.
The position offers exposure to infrastructure, cloud, networking, and security within a secure, data-driven research environment supporting large-scale databases and business-critical systems. It is well suited to someone who enjoys variety, solving real operational problems, and contributing ideas and improvements rather than simply following process.
We value attitude, capability, and problem-solving as much as direct product experience. If you are technically curious, adaptable, and motivated to grow while adding value to the team, we would encourage you to apply.
Pay: £30,000.00-£37,000.00 per year
