Job description
The Infrastructure Engineer deploys, automates, and supports production Linux server environments with a strong focus on reliability, standardization, and scalability. This role provisions physical servers, manages configuration automation, and serves as a Tier 3 escalation point for complex hardware and software issues. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to enhance infrastructure performance and resilience while operating within formal change management processes.
Responsibilities

Deploy and provision physical servers using a network-based PXE boot environment.

Automate operating system, software, and configuration deployments using Ansible.

Manage and maintain production Linux servers to ensure reliability, consistency, and high availability.

Serve as the Tier 3 escalation point for complex server hardware and software configuration issues.

Participate in scheduled server patching and maintenance cycles in accordance with established procedures.

Execute production deployments within an established change management process.

Evaluate and test server hardware to support standardization and reliability objectives.

Perform and document hardware Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to validate equipment performance and quality.

Investigate, document, and report root cause analyses (RCAs) on equipment or process failures.

The position requires careful documentation of testing, acceptance, and root cause analyses, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams to maintain a reliable and scalable infrastructure.
Requirements

Minimum of 4 years of experience in hardware and infrastructure deployment or support.

Strong experience with Linux server administration in production environments with formal change management expectations.

Hands-on experience with server provisioning processes, including physical server deployment.

Proficiency with Ansible for configuration management and automation of operating systems, software, and configurations.

Experience working with Docker and containerized workloads in production or pre-production environments.

Deep understanding of server hardware, components, and failure modes.

Proven ability to troubleshoot complex hardware and operating system-level issues.

Benefits & conditions
This is a Contract position based out of Durham, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
