Job description

Texas Cyber Command (TXCC) is seeking a DevOps Engineer to perform advanced (senior-level) computer systems analysis work. This position works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment to build and maintain the platform, data infrastructure, and automation that enable the State of Texas Cyber Threat Intelligence Center to produce intelligence and support operations. The DevOps Engineer owns the pipelines, data stores, tooling, and workflow automation that move raw data and external reporting into analyst- and decision-ready form., Designs, develops, implements, and maintains data platforms and pipeline infrastructure that support the ingestion, transformation, storage, and delivery of data for analytic and operational use. Constructs and operates data ingestion pipelines to move data from internal and external sources into enterprise systems. Establishes and maintains data platforms, including data lakes, analysis environments, and secure repositories for sensitive information. Develops and automates workflows for data enrichment, correlation, deduplication, and dissemination across production environments. Builds and sustains data mining and analytic pipelines to identify patterns and insights across large, complex, and heterogeneous datasets. Integrates data flows with internal systems and external partner interfaces to ensure interoperability and continuity of operations.

Automation, Tooling, and AI Enablement

Designs, develops, and maintains tools and automation solutions that enhance analyst and engineering capabilities and improve operational efficiency. Supports structured data management, tracking systems, and reporting workflows through custom tooling and system enhancements. Applies artificial intelligence and large language model (LLM) technologies to accelerate engineering processes, including code generation and review, pipeline and infrastructure development, log and data analysis, anomaly detection, and documentation. Develops and maintains AI-assisted workflows that expand team capacity, improve accuracy, and streamline repeatable processes.

Security, Operations, and Reliability

Implements and maintains security controls and operational safeguards to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and data. Manages access controls, audit logging, and data handling practices in compliance with agency policies and applicable state and federal regulations. Participates in on-call rotation and provides surge support during incidents to maintain system reliability and continuity of operations. Develops and maintains system documentation, including infrastructure diagrams, runbooks, and operational procedures, to support knowledge transfer, onboarding, and long-term sustainability of systems.

Strategy, Architecture, and Project Leadership

Provides technical analysis, strategic input, and project coordination to support enterprise-level initiatives and system improvements. Prepares and/or oversees the development of charts, diagrams, and reports that describe current and proposed systems, including associated costs, benefits, and performance outcomes. Participates in the development and execution of technical strategies, standards, and roadmaps, including establishing processes and procedures for system implementation and lifecycle management. Coordinates and supports projects involving cross-functional teams, agency systems, and external partners, including planning, scheduling, and execution of project activities.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Shell Scripting?, * Five (5) years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, data engineering, site reliability engineering, or closely related roles.

  • Demonstrated experience designing, building, and operating production data pipelines, including data ingestion, transformation, storage, and delivery to analytic or operational systems.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language suitable for data processing and automation, and experience with shell scripting.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, and with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) practices for provisioning and managing systems.
  • Hands-on experience deploying and operating workloads in at least one major cloud environment (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP), including familiarity with networking and edge service platforms.
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., coding assistants, LLM-based automation tools) to enhance engineering productivity and workflow efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

  • Experience designing and integrating large language model (LLM)-based solutions into production systems, including API integration, prompt engineering, evaluation, and cost optimization.
  • Experience operating across multiple cloud providers, with an understanding of cross-cloud architecture, cost management, identity, and security tradeoffs.
  • Experience in cyber threat intelligence, security operations, incident response, or threat hunting environments.
  • Experience working with SIEM, log aggregation, or other security-focused data platforms in operational environments.
  • Familiarity with cyber threat intelligence (CTI) platforms, data standards, and detection languages used in intelligence or SOC workflows.
  • Experience building or operating specialized security infrastructure, such as malware analysis environments, sandboxing systems, or exploit repositories.
  • Experience working in government, critical infrastructure, or other highly regulated environments with elevated data handling and security requirements.

Licensure:

  • Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Administrator)
  • Security certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP))
  • DevOps or infrastructure certifications (e.g., HashiCorp Terraform Associate)
