Job description
The Senior Systems Engineer serves as a primary owner for the sustainment, administration, and operational readiness of ATRRS modernization environments hosted across ECMA cARMY AWS and Azure. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of all cloudbased and hybrid environments supporting development, integration, testing, and production sustainment. The engineer leads cloud environment configuration, resource management, monitoring, troubleshooting, and lifecycle operations, ensuring continuous availability for the Army's enterprise training systems.
This position is ideal for a candidate who thrives in handson cloud operations, takes full ownership of environment health, and brings deep expertise in cloud administration.
Core Responsibilities
- Strategic Execution:
- Own the sustainment and administration of AWS and Azure environments supporting ATRRS modernization
- Support cloud architecture alignment, environment configuration, and readiness planning across all modernization phases
- Contribute to environment transition strategies (e.g., dev test production)
- Operational Oversight:
- Manage daytoday cloud operations, including compute, storage, networking, IAM, monitoring, and resource optimization
- Maintain configuration baselines, environment documentation, cloud resource inventories, and operational runbooks
- Ensure environments remain compliant with DoD security, access, and configuration standards
- Oversee environment health, capacity, and performance across AWS and Azure workloads
- Collaboration:
- Coordinate environment usage, scheduling, and access across development, testing, data, and integration teams
- Partner with cloud architects, security engineers, and application teams to resolve crossstack issues
- Support integration and test events by ensuring cloud environments are stable, performant, and missionready
- Technical Performance:
- Troubleshoot cloud infrastructure, environment, and configurationrelated issues across AWS and Azure
- Perform log analysis, performance tuning, and diagnostics using cloudnative tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Azure Monitor)
- Support environment provisioning, access management, configuration validation, and readiness checks
- Assist with deployments, patching, and environment updates across multicloud environments
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Provide handson support for cloud resource optimization, cost management, and environment scaling
- Participate in operational reviews, issue triage sessions, and cloud environment health assessments
- Contribute to continuous improvement of cloud sustainment processes and operational best practices
Requirements
Do you have experience in Technical troubleshooting support?, Do you have a Master's degree?, + Recommended bachelor's degree in Cloud Computing, Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related field (master's preferred), + Recommended 10 years in systems engineering, cloud operations, or infrastructure management supporting enterprise or government systems
- Technical Proficiency:
- Handson experience administering AWS and/or Azure environments
- Strong understanding of cloud networking, IAM, monitoring, and infrastructure troubleshooting
- Experience with environment management, configuration control, and multienvironment orchestration
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, cloud security controls, and environment lifecycle management
- Compliance:
- Must meet DoD and contractspecific requirements; active Secret clearance required
- Certifications:
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Sec+, CompTIA Cloud+, AWS or Azure Certifications
Preferred Expertise
- Demonstrated success supporting federal or DoD enterprise cloud environments
- Experience with cloud sustainment, environment lifecycle management, and operational readiness
- Familiarity with enterprise monitoring tools, log aggregation platforms, and cloud performance diagnostics
- Experience supporting largescale modernization or migration efforts
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problemsolving capabilities
