Job description

The Production Support Engineer is responsible for the communication and maintenance of engineering information to the factory, suppliers, and contracted labor. This includes consulting on manufacturing process, engineering deviation approval, drawing and bill of material maintenance, and supplier consultation with respect to design intent and manufacturing clarification., Support NPI (New Product Introduction) and manufacturing teams, including manufacturing quality, at Erie or Ft Worth sites to capture and investigate issues identified during prototype 'rabbit' locomotive development and near term production (units 2-5)

Communicate findings and possible resolution to responsible Design Engineers and then track same to closure through use of Process Change Request (PCR) module in Reliance. PCRs can be written by anyone, not just PSEs, but PSEs will assign the appropriate Engineering resource or they can author an ECR and redline themselves with Engineering oversight. See item Q below.

After Manufacturing Quality has determined the issue is design related, the PSE will research issues using available computer systems, 3D model interrogation, drawing retrieval system, etc. Contact appropriate engineer/team members to verify root cause and solution and escalate as required

Maintain relationships w/ design engineers and product definition group with emphasis on effective communication utilizing all tools available (modulate based on need to include email, telecon, video call, VR, etc.)

Utilize strong interpersonal skills to advise shop floor management and hourly labor workforce as engineering issues arise and effectively communicate clear next steps, ownership, and follow up

Stay updated on new methods/software and apply new tools as they become available to maintain efficiency

Update engineering documentation following prescribed change management practices

Work with Quality Team in root cause analysis of manufacturing issues to determine proper closure of issues, as needed

Assist manufacturing in researching and communicating manufacturing deviations to correct design engineer

Attend TG560 and/or eCollab design review meetings as production support engineering reviewer and complete all actions assigned during review by due dates

Support manufacturing by attending first article inspections and ensure appropriate engineering issues get logged in the PCR system

Compile and distribute weekly reports to team members

Act as engineering representation in cost out events, if required

Act as engineering consultant for suppliers, if required

Be willing to spend enough time on shop floor to maintain value add to the business.

Participate in scheduled daily pulse visits to shop and maintain availability and visibility to answer calls to shop floor

Author ECRs and redlines as needed and with Engineer oversight to provide faster responsiveness to the factory. Discretion will be up to the owning DE and ECNs will go to the owning DE.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Writing skills?, Do you have a Associate's degree?, Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, OR Associates degree in those disciplines with a minimum of 5 years relevant manufacturing and/or engineering experience., * Strong oral, written, and digital communication skills
