Leapros Skilled Trades is actively hiring Traveling Data Center Technician (OSP Fiber Splicing Experience) in Childress, TX. The Traveling Data Center Technician specializes in OSP fiber splicing and infrastructure support within mission-critical data center environments. This role requires an expert in high-fiber-count splicing and testing who is prepared for 100% travel to support facility deployments and maintenance., * Perform precision OSP fiber splicing, termination, and testing in both indoor data center and outside plant environments.
- Operate and maintain fusion splicers, OTDRs, power meters, and light sources to certify fiber optic links.
- Install, route, and secure fiber optic cabling according to engineering schematics and data center standards.
- Support scheduled Moves, Adds, and Changes (MACs) for physical infrastructure, including device labeling and connectivity.
- Document splicing configurations, test results, and project progress within network management systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve fiber connectivity issues, signal loss, or cable damage at various sites.
- Oversee the accuracy of fiber splicing and ensure proper utilization of splicing equipment in the field.
- Travel 100% to project sites as required to meet deployment schedules and client needs.
- Maintain a safe and secure operating environment by following all site security protocols and safety standards.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Telecommunications cable splicing?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, * Must have prior hands-on experience specifically with OSP (Outside Plant) fiber splicing.
- High school diploma or GED equivalency required.
- Proficiency in testing and certifying single-mode and multi-mode fiber using OTDR and Fluke meters.
- Strong working knowledge of fiber infrastructure installation, including high-fiber-count environments.
- Ability to read and interpret floor plans, blueprints, and network diagrams.
- Experience with hardware installation, including racks, switches, and fiber patch panels.
- Willingness to travel extensively across the US to different job sites for the duration of projects.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and move equipment up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work at heights, off of a ladder, and in confined or restricted spaces.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to see and distinguish different colors for fiber identification and read small print on labels.
- Comfortable working in various environments, including climate-controlled data centers and outdoor sites exposed to weather.
- Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers for delicate fiber splicing and termination tasks.
