Job description

Colorado State University's Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML) is seeking a non-student hourly Environmental GIS Technician to support a growing team of natural and cultural resource specialists working primarily on Department of Defense (DoD) installation projects. This position focuses on applied GIS support, spatial data management, and analysis in support of environmental planning, compliance, and resource management.

The GIS Technician will assist with the development, maintenance, documentation, and analysis of spatial datasets derived from multiple sources, including field-collected GPS data, existing geodatabases, shape files, reports, paper maps, and publicly available datasets. Core responsibilities include map production, spatial analysis, data QA/QC, and support for GIS-enabled workflows, with opportunities to assist in web GIS and automation efforts as skills allow.

The technician will also support the creation and maintenance of GIS documentation, templates, and standards to ensure consistency across projects and collaborators. This is an in-person position based at CEMML's main office in Fort Collins, Colorado. Preference will be given to candidates currently residing in Colorado., * Office-based tasks can include data entry and management, public outreach, preparing site forms, writing technical reports, compliance documents, database and data management, spatial analysis, and/or preparing correspondence and other documentation., Colorado State University strives to provide a safe study, work, and living environment for its faculty, staff, volunteers and students. Requirements

Do you have a valid Driver's License license?, Do you have experience in Technical report writing?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license by the employment start date.

  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
  • Must be able to pass a federal background investigation to obtain a Department of Defense Installation Access Pass. You will need to possess a Real ID or passport., * B.S. in natural resources-, cultural resources-, ecosystem science-, or environmental policy-related field.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and/or Adobe Creative Suite software.
  • Demonstrated training and experience using GIS software, database management software, global positioning system technology, and geospatial technical writing and documentation., * Currently enrolled or holder of a Graduate Degree in natural resources management, environmental science, geography, geographic information systems (GIS), history, anthropology, or computer science, or a related field.
  • Experience managing spatial data in geodatabases or Microsoft Access databases.
  • Knowledge and experience developing experience builder web applications including geo-portal data maintenance, ArcGIS Online or story maps.
  • Knowledge and experience with automation processes such as ETL tools, python scripting, R, and/or SQL.
