Job description

At nyra health, design is not decoration. It's how trust, clarity, and innovation come to life. We're looking for a UI & Design Systems Designer to architect and scale the foundation that makes great product experiences possible. You'll own and evolve our design system - building the component libraries, tokens, documentation, and contribution workflows that empower our product team to move faster and more consistently. This is not a maintenance role; it's a strategic, craft-forward position at the heart of how nyra health's products look, feel, and scale., * Design system ownership: Architect, build, and maintain nyra's design system - covering components, patterns, tokens, and documentation - across mobile (iOS/Android) and web platforms

  • Component library: Design and document a comprehensive library of reusable UI components in Figma, ensuring consistency, scalability, and ease of use for the entire product team
  • Design tokens & theming: Define and manage design tokens (color, typography, spacing, motion) to enable consistent theming and seamless design-to-code handoff
  • Accessibility & quality: Embed WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA accessibility standards into every component and pattern, so compliance is inherited by default and not retrofitted later
  • Developer collaboration: Work closely with frontend engineers to ensure components are accurately implemented and maintain alignment between design and code
  • Laying the ground work as the team grows: Establish clear processes early on and help our design team as it grows to build good habits around contributing and evolving the design system, reducing inconsistency and duplication across our platforms
  • Product UI design: Own the product UI and design system within myReha and nyra insights, raising the visual and interaction quality bar across both products
  • Documentation & adoption: Write clear usage guidelines, pattern rationale, and best practices that empower the whole team to design with confidence and speed, * Systems thinker: You see beyond individual components. You think about how the whole fits together, how the system scales, and where it breaks down under pressure
  • Quality-driven: You hold a high bar for craft and consistency, and you notice when things drift - even before anyone else does
  • Pragmatic builder: You know when to be rigorous and when to move fast, and you don't let perfect be the enemy of shipped
  • Collaborative and open: You see the design system as a shared resource, not your personal territory. You build with the team, not just for them
  • Curious about healthcare: You're interested in how well-designed systems can make complex clinical tools feel approachable, trustworthy, and effective for both therapists and patients
  • Proactive communicator: You surface problems early, document decisions clearly, and keep stakeholders informed without being asked

Why nyra health

  • Fast-growing digital health scale-up with international ambition
  • Opportunity to take ownership of an early-stage design system and have the autonomy to refine, reshape, and grow it properly, shaping how our products look and feel at scale
  • Direct collaboration with founders and cross-functional teams
  • Real ownership and visible impact from day one
  • Transparent, direct communication and feedback culture
  • Attractive compensation, Phantom Stock Options, and company perks (Wiener Linien Jahreskarte etc.)
  • Beautiful office in Vienna's First District with regular team events
  • Some of the best Mario Kart drivers in the Austrian startup scene ;), * Practical exercise: A design systems case - you'll be asked to think through a component structure, token architecture, or contribution model, discussed with our Product Design Lead.
  • Meet with Founders: Discuss your case, design approach, and real-world constraints with the founders as the last step before joining nyra health.

Requirements

Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Design systems experience: 3-5+ years working on or leading a design system, component library, or UI framework - with a portfolio that demonstrates real system thinking, not just component creation

  • Figma mastery: Expert-level Figma proficiency - including components, variables, auto-layout, design tokens, branching, and multi-platform library management
  • Token architecture: Experience defining, structuring, and managing design tokens with a solid understanding of how they map to code (Compose, SwiftUI, or similar)
  • UI design craft: Strong foundation in UI patterns, interaction design, responsive layouts, typography, and visual hierarchy. You build systems that are both rigorous and beautiful
  • Accessibility knowledge: Working knowledge of WCAG 2.1/2.2 standards and how to embed accessibility into component design from the ground up
  • Cross-functional fluency: Comfortable working with engineers, product managers, and designers. You understand front-end constraints and speak the language of both design and code
  • Documentation skills: You write clearly and can produce guidelines that designers and developers actually want to read and use
  • Bonus: Experience in healthcare, digital health, or medtech - and familiarity with the unique UX considerations of clinical and therapeutic tools
