Job description

You will deploy and commission smart building platforms, configure and troubleshoot communication across multiple protocols, and act as the technical lead on site. You will diagnose system-of-systems failures where hardware, firmware, and software layers intersect, and write the custom logic and scripts that make non-standard integrations work., * Lead deployment and commissioning of smart building platforms (Tridium Niagara, Schneider EcoStruxure, or bespoke MQTT/API-based dashboards)

  • Configure and troubleshoot communication across MQTT, BACnet, OPC, Modbus, DALI, KNX, and M-Bus - ensuring robust data mapping and point discovery
  • Deploy and manage building networks: IP addressing, VLAN configuration, firewall navigation, wireless sensor integration
  • Diagnose complex system-of-systems failures across hardware, firmware, and software layers
  • Write scripts (Python, JavaScript, or similar) to automate data flows and create custom logic for non-standard integrations
  • Act as technical lead on site: translate complex digital concepts for stakeholders and confirm the building's final user experience meets design intent
  • Produce commissioning evidence and as-built documentation to project close-out standard

Requirements

Do you have experience in TCP/IP?, * Expert-level proficiency in at least two major BMS/BEMS platforms

  • Deep working knowledge of Tridium Niagara (N4) or equivalent middleware
  • Solid networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, subnetting, DNS, cybersecurity protocols
  • Packet-level diagnostic capability with Wireshark or equivalent - able to sniff and analyse traffic to resolve communication issues between mixed-vendor hardware
  • Scripting ability in Python, JavaScript, or similar for integration logic and data automation
  • First-principles problem solver - able to identify root cause under site pressure

Desirable

  • Experience with SQL databases and REST/JSON API integration
  • Experience on data centres, healthcare estates, or other critical environments
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks for connected building systems

The kind of engineer this suits

  • Equally comfortable with a multimeter in a control panel and a CLI on a server
  • Self-managing - you set your own project pace and don't need close oversight
  • Stays current with IoT, integration middleware, and AI-driven automation as the landscape moves

About the company

OKTO is repositioning from a project-delivery integrator to a critical-infrastructure platform company. The integration layer you commission is core to that direction. You will have ownership of the technical decisions on your projects, freedom to experiment with new tooling, and direct influence over the technical roadmap as it develops.
