Job description

Support the design and development of new products, components, and systems, while helping to improve existing products for manufacture and customer use. A key focus of the Graduate Design Engineer role is the creation of clear assembly instructions and technical build documentation to support prototype, pre-production, and production builds. The role will also involve producing and maintaining CAD models, drawings, BoMs, and design documentation, supporting projects from concept through to manufacture. It is intended as a development position for an engineer at the start of their career, working under guidance from more experienced engineers while building technical capability, product knowledge and understanding of manufacturing requirements., General and Task Management

  • Produce clear assembly instructions and technical build documentation to support workshop, prototype, and production build activities.
  • Assist with concept development and feasibility studies for new products, components and design changes.
  • Create and update 3D models, assemblies and 2D engineering drawings using Solid Edge.
  • Support the release and control of CAD models, engineering drawings, assembly documentation and Bills of Materials (BoMs).
  • Contribute to design calculations, basic analysis, tolerance reviews and design validation activities.
  • Help investigate design-related issues, identify root causes and support implementation of corrective actions.
  • Assist in modifying existing products to improve performance, manufacturability, cost, serviceability and quality.
  • Prepare technical information, build documentation and reports for design reviews, prototype builds and project meetings.
  • Support prototype and vehicle build activities, capture feedback from the build process and update documentation and designs where required.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records and track design changes in line with company processes.
  • Participate in design reviews and communicate technical progress clearly to the wider team.
  • Support continuous improvement activities within engineering and manufacturing processes.
  • Keep up to date with relevant engineering methods, materials, legislation, standards and design tools.
  • Undertake training and development activities to build product, process and system knowledge.

  • Work collaboratively with engineers, technicians and cross-functional teams to deliver project objectives.

  • Build effective working relationships across engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, quality and programme teams.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Schematics?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Good understanding of engineering fundamentals and design principles.

  • Awareness of 3D CAD modelling and technical drawing creation using Solid Edge.
  • Ability to interpret engineering information and translate requirements into practical design solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with good attention to detail.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, assembly methods and build documentation requirements.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks with guidance and prioritise effectively.
  • Competent PC skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness to learn new systems, processes and engineering tools.
  • Able to work effectively within a team environment and respond constructively to review and feedback., * A degree in a relevant engineering discipline is preferred.
  • Placement year, internship, university project or early-career experience in a design or manufacturing environment would be advantageous.
  • Experience of using Solid Edge for 3D modelling and drawing creation is desirable.
  • Awareness of BoM structures, engineering change control, drawing release processes and creation of assembly/build documentation would be beneficial.
  • Basic understanding of relevant engineering standards, legislation and quality requirements is desirable.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methods would be an advantage.

Development Expectation

This role is intended to develop into a fully competent Design Engineer position. The successful candidate will be expected to build capability in product design, manufacturing support, technical problem solving, CAD best practice, assembly documentation, engineering documentation and cross-functional project delivery over time., * Bachelor's (required), * design or manufacturing environment : 1 year (required)
