Job description

As Junior Platform Engineer you will work alongside our experienced platform team to support and improve Bud's cloud infrastructure. This is a developmental role designed to help you build hands-on expertise in cloud engineering, automation and software development, while contributing to the reliability of the platform that our software engineering team relies on every day.

With guidance and mentorship from senior engineers, you will help maintain and optimise our build and release processes, assist with monitoring and troubleshooting, and gradually take on more responsibility as your skills develop. You will be encouraged to learn, ask questions and grow into a confident platform engineer with a clear path for progression within the team., You will work under the guidance of senior platform engineers to:

  • Help maintain, monitor and support Bud's Azure cloud environments
  • Assist with build and release pipelines in Azure DevOps
  • Support developers by helping investigate logs, application insights and platform issues
  • Contribute to infrastructure-as-code work, with mentorship, as your confidence grows
  • Document processes and contribute to improving how the team works
  • Learn and apply best practice in security, reliability and automation

Requirements

Do you have experience in PowerShell?, * Foundational understanding of cloud computing concepts (ideally Microsoft Azure, but AWS or GCP exposure is welcome)

  • Familiarity with at least one scripting language (e.g. PowerShell, Bash or Python)
  • Basic understanding of relational databases and SQL
  • Awareness of CI/CD concepts and version control (e.g. Git)
  • A genuine enthusiasm for automation, infrastructure and continuous improvement
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem solving
  • A willingness to learn, take feedback and develop technically over time

Desirable:

  • Any hands-on exposure to Azure PaaS services (e.g. WebApps, Service Bus, Cosmos, SQL, Redis, Functions)
  • Exposure to infrastructure as code, e.g. Terraform
  • Awareness of distributed systems concepts, e.g. microservices
  • Familiarity with networking basics (DNS, firewalls)
  • Exposure to containers (Docker) or orchestration (Kubernetes)
  • Any experience with C#.NET or TypeScript
  • Relevant qualifications, certifications (e.g. AZ-900) or personal projects demonstrating interest in the field
  • Eligibility for SC Clearance

THE PERSON

We judge each person on their own individual merits. For this role we are looking for someone early in their career who combines a genuine interest in cloud infrastructure and automation with a positive can-do attitude, pride in their work, good communication skills and a strong desire to learn.

You don't need years of commercial experience - what matters most is curiosity, a willingness to ask questions, and the drive to get stuck in. Whether you're coming from a junior engineering role, an apprenticeship, a relevant degree, or a self-taught route, we're interested in people who are excited about platform engineering and want to grow with us.
