Job description
A fast-growing retail and digital commerce organization is seeking a deeply hands-on Director of IT / Head of Technology Operations to lead internal technology environments and operational infrastructure as the company scales across stores, e-commerce, and digital platforms.
This role also supports environments that rely heavily on sports-related data, including systems that power pricing, inventory, analytics, and in-store experiences. While this is not a data engineering role, the Director of IT must ensure the reliability, accuracy, and operational readiness of systems that consume, display, or depend on sports-driven datasets.
This is a roll-up-your-sleeves execution role where you directly manage tools, troubleshoot issues, and drive day-to-day IT operations.
Reporting Structure
Reports to: VP of Technology Partners closely with:
- Director of Engineering
- Fractional security leadership (vCISO)
- MSP / MSSP partners
- Operations, Finance, and Store Leadership
Core Mandate
Own and operate the "run layer" of the company's technology environment, including:
- Internal IT operations
- Store technology infrastructure
- Vendor ecosystem management
- Execution of security controls and governance
- Operational support for systems leveraging sports-related data
Key Responsibilities1. IT Operations & Support (Hands-On Ownership)
- Directly manage all end-user technology environments (laptops, mobile devices, accounts)
- Personally handle escalations and complex troubleshooting
- Build and run helpdesk workflows with a focus on speed and reliability
- Execute standardized onboarding and offboarding processes
- Identity & Access Management
- Administer Google Workspace and identity systems
- Configure access controls, permissions, and account lifecycle management
- Implement MFA, RBAC, and other security best practices
- Endpoint & Device Management
- Deploy and manage MDM solutions across all devices
- Execute patching, updates, and endpoint security
- Maintain device inventory, lifecycle, and replacement planning
- Store Technology & Infrastructure
- Personally oversee technology setup and support across all retail locations
- Configure and troubleshoot POS systems, networking, WiFi, and security systems
- Support store systems that rely on real-time sports-related data, including pricing, catalog updates, and display systems
- Build and maintain store deployment playbooks
- Ensure consistent, scalable infrastructure for new store openings
- Vendor & Partner Management
- Manage MSP/MSSP partners with a hands-on understanding of their work
- Oversee telecom, hardware, and SaaS vendors
- Hold vendors accountable to SLAs, performance, and cost targets
- Evaluate and implement new vendors when needed
- IT Governance & Process
- Create and maintain IT policies, standards, and documentation
- Support audit readiness and compliance requirements
- Execute security-related controls in partnership with the vCISO
- Reliability & Business Continuity
- Implement and maintain backups, redundancy, and recovery processes
- Act as the operational lead during incidents or outages
- Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions
- Cross-Functional Enablement
- Work directly with Operations, Merchandising, Finance, and Marketing
- Ensure systems and tools support business workflows
- Drive adoption and usability of internal technology systems
Pay: $125,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year
