Job description

We are looking for an iOS Developer to join our mobile engineering team and contribute to the development of high quality, performant iOS applications across TEGNA's portfolio of media properties. In this role, you will work within a cross functional pod, building features, fixing defects, and collaborating with product, design, backend, and QA teammates to deliver polished mobile experiences to millions of users. You will focus on implementing features, writing clean and testable code, and growing your skills as part of a team that values ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You will receive mentorship from Senior Developers and Team Leads while contributing meaningfully to sprint delivery and platform quality.

This is a hybrid position based in Knoxville, TN, with regular in person collaboration alongside engineers across mobile, backend, streaming, and quality teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and maintain iOS features using Swift, SwiftUI, and UIKit
  • Implement features according to acceptance criteria and design specifications, delivering

clean and maintainable code

  • Participate actively in sprint planning, daily standups, estimation, grooming, and

retrospectives

  • Deliver stories to QA by sprint targets, including completing local functional testing, unit

tests, and environment verification before handoff

  • Write unit tests alongside feature development and keep CI green
  • Collaborate with product owners, designers, backend engineers, and QA to deliver

cohesive end-to-end experiences

  • Integrate RESTful APIs and work with backend teams on data contracts and integration

patterns

  • Participate in code reviews, both giving and receiving feedback constructively, to

maintain high code quality

  • Respond quickly to QA findings and fix bugs within the same sprint cycle
  • Create and complete documentation tasks for every story you own
  • Support release readiness by ensuring your work is tested, documented, and deployable
  • Surface blockers, dependencies, and technical concerns early in standups and planning
  • Use AI assisted development tools to accelerate work while retaining full responsibility

for correctness and quality

  • Learn from Senior Developers and Team Leads, actively seeking feedback on design

decisions and code quality and when finished early, help teammates with carry and QA failures before pulling future work

Requirements

Do you have a Trade school?, * 3 plus years of professional iOS development experience on production, client-facing

applications

  • Solid proficiency in Swift, with working knowledge of SwiftUI and UIKit
  • Understanding of common iOS architecture patterns such as MVVM or similar

approaches

  • Experience integrating with RESTful APIs and working with asynchronous data flows
  • Familiarity with unit testing practices and modern mobile build and release pipelines
  • Comfortable working in Agile environments with short, iterative release cycles
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, ownership driven mindset
  • Willingness to learn, grow, and take on increasing technical responsibility over time

Bonus Points

  • Experience with video playback, HLS streaming, or ad tech frameworks
  • Familiarity with feature flags, experimentation, and analytics tooling
  • Experience working in multi app or multi brand iOS environments
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or Fastlane
  • Interest in contributing to shared platform libraries or frameworks
