Systems Administrator

As a Systems Administrator at Empowerment Academy Charter School, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our educational technology infrastructure. You will be responsible for managing and maintaining our complex IT systems, providing technical support, and helping to create a conducive learning environment. This position offers an excellent opportunity for experienced IT professionals to advance their career in the field of educational technology., * Provide advanced technical assistance to students, teachers, and staff, addressing issues related to hardware, software, and network connectivity.

• Manage and maintain systems such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 EDU, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra Identity, and Intune for Education.

• Oversee network infrastructure design and topology, including the management of VPN tunnels, and troubleshoot network outages.

• Manage Sophos XG-XGS Firewall or equivalent systems, ensuring robust security protocols are in place.

• Assist with the setup, configuration, and maintenance of computers, laptops, tablets, projectors, and other educational technology devices.

• Install, troubleshoot, and upgrade software applications used in the educational environment, including learning management systems, productivity software, and educational software.

• Offer training and guidance to end-users on technology usage and best practices.

• Keep detailed records of support requests, resolutions, and IT equipment inventory.

• Proactively diagnose and resolve issues with cloud and internal servers and services.

• Collaborate with vendors such as UniFi and Extreme Networks for network solutions and support.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Configure and manage building-wide wireless and switching infrastructure using Ubiquiti Networks and Extreme Networks (EXOS, XIQ, Site Engine).

• Maintain virtualized server environments using VMware or an equivalent hypervisor solution.

• Oversee and validate server backup operations and recovery procedures.

• Manage device fleets using Jamf School, Microsoft Intune, or other MDM/RMM platforms.

• Develop and maintain scripts for task automation and system configuration using PowerShell (preferred but not required).

Do you have experience in Wireless networking?, Do you have a Associate's degree?, * MUST RESIDE IN NEW JERSEY

• 5+ years working in Information Technology with firewall management.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in IT or a certification in a related field preferred.
• Extensive experience with Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 EDU, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra Identity, and Intune for Education.
• Proven expertise in managing Sophos XG-XGS Firewall or equivalent, and VPN tunnels.
• Strong knowledge of network infrastructure design, topology, and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with Ubiquiti and Extreme Networks (including EXOS, XIQ, and Site Engine).
• Experience with virtualized environments using VMware or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with server backup management and disaster recovery protocols.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• PowerShell scripting ability is a plus.
• MDM experience with tools such as Jamf School or equivalent.
• Prior experience in an educational setting is a plus but not required.
