Job description

This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing VoIP and LAN infrastructure for the VA NSOC. The candidate will set goals, monitor work, and evaluate results to ensure objectives and operating requirements are met and are in line with the needs and mission of the organization. Tasking will be comprised of network support and buildouts including security, routing, switching, wireless, other network-related duties and VoIP Infrastructure Support.

Background

The VA NSOC defends, manages, and monitors the network operating status and cyber security posture of the VA by providing the day-to-day management, operation and configuration of the enterprise network infrastructure, Internet Gateways, the delivery of enterprise security systems and services, the monitoring and reporting of security incidents, the conduct of threat and vulnerability analysis, the validation of adequate security controls within the enterprise and the full range of functions across the spectrum of activities relating to incident management, incident response and enterprise network management.

General Requirements:

  • Supports voice engineering initiatives for all project-related and ongoing operations support for voice communications services.
  • Implements and troubleshoots enterprise Voice-related solutions/incidents/system outages
  • Participates in the design and implementation of the Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) platform and related technologies
  • Provisions voice services for new users
  • Documents, monitors, and audits network infrastructure
  • Creates and tracks performance metrics and adjusts network design accordingly
  • Performs routine maintenance on network devices and applications.
  • Provides third-level network engineering support - Help Desk escalation calls; including occasional after hours support.
  • Works with IT team on large projects
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and procedure manuals.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Wireless networking?, * Strong interpersonal skills, oral communication skills, and proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to conduct research into IP telephony issues and products.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Solid understanding of LAN concepts - IP routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP) and switching technologies (VLANs, Spanning Tree, etc..)
  • In-depth knowledge of Security Devices (Cisco ASA)
  • Experience with remote access VPN connections
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in a large-scale enterprise network
  • Experience with WiFi networks and related management tools (WCS, WLC and Autonomous AP's)
  • Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of the job. Complete understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the job, and its application.
  • Problem Solving: Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives.
  • Supervision: Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approaches to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives., * Bachelor's degree in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required with at least 8 years of experience.
  • CCNP Certification Preferred
  • Cisco Unity, UCCX scripting, Call manager
  • T1/E1/PRI and SIP circuits, ISDN, PBX's, SRST, H323, MGCP, CSU/DSU's and Gateway's
  • PWS Specified Certifications: CCNP Certification preferred
  • Background Investigation: Must be able to pass and maintain a Tier 4 Government Background Investigation

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with network management applications. Splunk, NOM, and Solarwinds are preferred.
  • Experience with TACACS+, RADIUS. Experience with Cisco ISE preferred.
  • Experience with Nexus and Catalyst switches is highly desirable
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco UCS hardware preferred
  • Experience with VMware ESX / ESXi, preferred
  • Troubleshooting network and telecom issues, and coordinating support with vendors
  • Functional knowledge of security best practices and design principals
