Job description

The Poetsch Group is looking for a Data and IT manager (f/m/x) to support the team in the study of genomes and how they change with aging and in cancer development. The position strongly focuses on the collaborative development of data analysis infrastructure on high-performance com- puting with Omics data.

YOUR TASKS » Design and implement standardized folder hierarchies

and naming conventions across HPC storage systems » Collaborative implementation of standard operating

procedures for data analysis, software engineering and data analysis pipelines, including for machine learning and deep learning

» Develop and maintain metadata schemas to enable efficient data discovery, retrieval and data lifecycle management

» Create and enforce data organization policies and best practices for research teams

» Implement quota management and work with users to optimize storage efficiency

» Provide guidance to researchers on data organization best practices

» Develop documentation, templates, and standard operating procedures

Requirements

Do you have experience in UNIX?, Do you have a Master's degree?, » Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science,

Bioinformatics or a field of study related to IT » Strong experience with Linux/Unix command-line

environments » Familiarity with HPC storage architectures and parallel

file systems » Strong attention to detail and systematic approach to

data classification » Understanding of scientific research workflows and

data types » Excellent communication skills in order to work with

diverse technical and non-technical users » Proficiency in Python and R for data analysis » Familiarity with tools like samtools and Nextflow

» Very good interpersonal and communication skills; in particular, the ability to effectively work in a diverse, collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment

» Excellent written and spoken English skills are an essential requirement

Benefits & conditions

The position is available from 01.07.2026 or at the earliest possible time on a full-time basis (39,83 hours per week). It is a permanent position. If the applicant meets the rele- vant wage requirements and personal qualifications, the salary will be based on remuneration group 11 TV-L of the pay scale for the German public sector.
