Job description
- Manage ASHRAE 188-compliant water management programs, including policy enforcement and administrative documentation using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Provide direct support for regulatory surveys, including inspector interviews, documentation retrieval, and site visits to demonstrate compliance with water management requirements.
- Coordinate bacterial testing and response protocols enterprise-wide to ensure records are maintained and corrective actions are executed in accordance with organizational policy and best practices.
- Compile and analyze water chemistry and biological testing results for cooling towers, boilers, and closed-loop systems to ensure alignment with performance standards.
- Monitor operations and state-mandated compliance testing for domestic water supplemental disinfection systems.
- Maintain site policies, safety documentation, and task records within digital management platforms.
- Manage vendor relationships to ensure accountability, including scheduling, billing oversight, and facilitation of stakeholder meetings for planning and communication.
- Track and analyze water meter data to identify trends and support water conservation and energy-efficiency initiatives.
- Prepare written and verbal reports summarizing compliance metrics, testing results, and trends for quarterly safety and business reviews.
- Travel to enterprise sites (approximately 10% of workdays) across Wisconsin, Illinois, North Carolina, and Georgia to conduct onsite water system walkthroughs and assessments., 1,000 care locations, and offers one of the nation's largest graduate medical education programs with over 2,000 residents and fellows across more than 200 programs. The Water System Specialist provides enterprise-wide oversight of water management and Legionella water safety programs. This role ensures regulatory compliance, monitors water quality and utility metrics, and analyzes data to support continuous improvement in safety, performance, and operational effectiveness across the organization.
Requirements
Do you have a valid Driver's License license?, Do you have experience in Vendor relationship building?, * Bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering field.
Licensure / Certification
- Valid U.S. Driver's License.
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience in project management and database management.
- Minimum 1 year of experience conducting data analysis and interpretation, including development of graphical reports for large datasets.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, OneDrive).
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic, algebra, and water engineering calculations (e.g., concentrations, dosages, volumes).
- Basic knowledge of analytical chemistry and biological culture analysis.
- Strong data interpretation skills and ability to determine best practices based on technical information and trends.
- Effective public speaking and communication skills, including leading meetings and presenting to large groups., * Bachelor's degree or higher in microbiology, biochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering, or mechanical engineering.
Certifications
- ASSE/IAPMO 12080 Certified Legionella Safety Personnel (or obtained within one year of hire).
- Certified non-transient, non-community public water supply operator in Wisconsin and Illinois., * 2-5 years of experience in project management, database management, and analytical chemistry or microbiological analysis.
- 2-5 years of experience developing and administering ASHRAE 188-compliant water management programs in healthcare.
- 2-5 years of experience with chemical water treatment for boilers, cooling towers, and closed-loop systems.
- Experience interpreting industry standards and regulations (e.g., ASHRAE 188, CMS Memo 17-30, AAMI 108, AWWA C651, Clean Water Act).
- Experience designing, operating, or evaluating supplemental water disinfection systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to interpret and communicate regulatory language and complex technical information.
- Knowledge of building plumbing design and mechanical water systems, including ability to read plumbing diagrams.
- Understanding of water chemistry principles and microbiological processes.
- Experience working with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)., * Primarily remote work requiring independent time management and organization.
- Occasional travel by car or air, including overnight stays for distant site visits.
- Frequent virtual communication and occasional public speaking with site teams and stakeholders.
