Job description

  • Participate in the evaluation of new software, hardware, and infrastructure solutions;
  • Install, configure, and maintain the operation of complex computing systems to achieve optimal technical performance and end user experience;
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve system hardware, software, and networking issues;
  • Establish positive, productive working relationships with District staff, administrators, and partners;
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; prepare clear, concise and accurate documentation, reports of work performed and other written materials;
  • Establish priorities and work within time constraints and deadlines;
  • Operate a personal computer and use program applications appropriate to assigned duties;
  • Operate a motor vehicle;
  • Follow written and oral instructions;
  • Perform multiple tasks simultaneously, including handling interruptions, and return to and complete tasks in a timely manner;
  • Exercise sound independent judgment; Work independently, with minimal supervision, and make appropriate decisions in the absence of a supervisor;
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all proprietary and confidential data and information residing in the District., * Designs and maintains the Active Directory domain, including DNS, Group Policy, and File Services. Facilitates regulatory compliance as required;
  • Oversees data center equipment, including converged platforms and backup appliances;
  • Monitors system uptime and resolves system software and hardware issues as quickly as possible, effectively communicating any issues to management;
  • Establishes and maintains platform for system imaging, application deployment, patch management, and antivirus protection;
  • Designs and maintains federated services infrastructure to securely enable authentication to third party products through Active Directory;
  • Procures and manages certificate and domain services for internal and external resources;
  • Coordinates with departmental teams to successfully deploy, manage and support server applications, client/server applications, and web accessible applications;
  • Manages provisioning and deprovisioning of Active Directory user accounts through scripting; manages group membership to allow end users appropriate access to internal resources;
  • Oversees and designs enterprise backup solution; performs data restores as needed;
  • Researches, tests and implements system updates and/or revisions to maintain system efficiency, security and functionality;
  • Troubleshoots and resolves escalated issues;
  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures, and safety practices.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participates in the evaluation of proposed solutions by performing technical research, and provides technical input to evaluative teams;
  • Provides back-up support to department staff as required; may perform other special projects related to systems technology.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Windows?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, Experience and Training

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems; and Five years of professional experience;
  • Microsoft MCSE and/or VMWare Certification preferred;
  • Networking certifications; Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform as an effective and competent Systems Administrator.

Knowledge and Proficiency of:

  • Server Virtualization;
  • Microsoft Active Directory;
  • Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems;
  • Backup and Disaster Recovery;
  • Microsoft Active Directory Federated Services;
  • Powershell scripting;
  • Desktop Configuration Management;
  • Network architectures, local and wide area enterprise network design and integration;
  • Collaboration technologies (VoIP);
  • Deployment and management of enterprise server based systems;
  • Principles of network communications, protocols, topologies and security.

Transferring employees or former District employees hired into this role will be placed on the "M" letter grade of the Classified Salary Schedule, but the initial step placement will vary based on a variety of factors.

Classified Salary Schedule, For positions that qualify, the District offers a benefit package that is valued at more than $10,000 annually. Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and Public Employees' Retirement System (PERSI) and are provided to Classified employees who work at least half time (20 hours per week) or more in a regular position and to Certified employees with a .50 FTE or greater contract.
