Job description
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Cloud Engineer to join our team in the greater DMV area, supporting the Army National Guard. Responsibilities
- Deploy, configure, and maintain cloud infrastructure and services per approved architectures and security baselines.
- Manage cloud resources (compute, storage, networking) to ensure performance, availability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Monitor cloud environments using enterprise tools to detect issues, optimize utilization, and support operational stability.
- Perform routine operational tasks: provisioning, scaling, patching, backups, and incident response within cloud platforms.
- Implement and validate security/configuration controls to support RMF/ATO evidence and applicable STIG/CSG requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering, DevSecOps, security, and operations teams to support deployments, compliance, and service continuity.
- Maintain configuration documentation, runbooks, and change logs to ensure traceability and audit readiness.
- Support troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and handoffs to senior engineers for complex issues.
- Execute standard operating procedures and participate in after-hours/shift rotations as required.
Requirements
- 2 years with BS/BA, 0 years with MS/MA, 6 years no degree
- Clearance: Active TS/SCI clearance.
- Candidate must meet ONE of the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or Software Engineering; OR
- Relevant DoD/military training (examples: Network Operations Specialist (Basic) Playlist, relevant SANS/DOD basic cloud courses); OR
- Relevant professional certification or equivalent experience (examples: CSSLP, AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate, RHCE, Security+).
- Required experience and skills:
- Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on cloud/IT operations experience.
- Practical experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) including resource provisioning, networking, and storage.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/CloudFormation), basic scripting (Python/PowerShell/Bash), and CI/CD toolchains.
- Operational knowledge of monitoring/alerting tools, logging platforms, and incident/ticketing systems.
- Understanding of RMF/ATO support requirements and secure configuration practices.
- Strong procedural discipline, documentation skills, and ability to follow runbooks and change control processes.
- Desired:
- Prior DoD/Army/ARNG cloud operations or classified-environment experience.
- Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes), cloud cost optimization, and automation of operational tasks.
- Familiarity with secrets management, IAM policy management, and cloud-native security services.
- Willingness/ability to support on-call rotations and emergency response activities.

This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
