Job description
We are looking for an experienced VSAT Design Engineer to be based at the client's office in Alaska, Responsible for the design, integration, and optimization of satellite communication systems. This role focuses on RF system design, link budget analysis, antenna configuration, modem integration, and ensuring end-to-end network reliability for fixed or mobile satellite networks., * Design end-to-end VSAT systems including RF, baseband, and IP components.
- Perform detailed link budget calculations, fade margin analysis, and capacity modeling.
- Select appropriate antennas, BUCs, LNBs, modems, and RF components based on mission requirements.
- Develop system block diagrams, frequency plans, and network topology layouts.
- Configure and validate iDirect, Hughes, Viasat or Comtech VSAT platforms.
- Configure RF chains for Ku, Ka, C-band satellite systems.
- Conduct spectrum analysis, interference testing, and carrier monitoring.
- Support antenna pointing, calibration, and commissioning activities.
- Integrate VSAT systems with teleport infrastructure and satellite hubs (e.g., iDirect, Hughes, Comtech).
- Prepare design documents, engineering reports, installation guides, and test procedures.
- Maintain configuration records and network diagrams.
- Develop acceptance test plans (SAT/IFAT/FAT).
Requirements
Do you have experience in VSAT?, * 5+ years of VSAT network design experience.
- Strong understanding of RF engineering, satellite link design, and propagation models.
- VSAT modems (iDirect, Hughes, UHP, Gilat, Comtech)
- Antenna systems (1.2m - 4.5m; fixed, auto-acquire, maritime, or aero)
- Spectrum analyzers, power meters, RF test equipment
- Satellite access methods (TDMA, SCPC, DVB-S2X)
- Knowledge of IP networking (TCP/IP, routing, QoS, VLANs).
- Familiarity with monitoring systems (NMS, EMS, SNMP).
- Hands-on experience with:
- Willingness to relocate to or already be based in Alaska.
