Job description
- Trade Posting Engine - Extend and optimize the core trade posting engine in Aladdin, designing and delivering new capabilities that enhance client workflows while continuously tuning for throughput, latency, and scalability.
- Position Management - Maintain the performance-sensitive lot disposition and position maintenance framework.
- Platform Convergence - Partner with Private Markets, Accounting, and Product teams to help converge Aladdin capabilities, aligning transaction models and workflows as part of BlackRock's broader Whole Portfolio and IBOR strategy.
- Operational Tooling - Build and maintain diagnostic utilities and Perl-based operational scripts for reconciliation, position lifecycle processing, and regression testing.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead individual projects priorities, deadlines and deliverables using AGILE methodologies.
- Deliver high throughput, scalable, efficient, highly available, concurrent and fault tolerant software systems.
- Collaborate with team members in a multi-office, multi-country environment.
- Significantly contribute to development of Aladdin's global, multi-asset trading platform.
- Work with product management and business users to define the roadmap for the product.
- Design and develop innovative solutions to complex problems, identifying issues and roadblocks.
- Apply validated quality software engineering practices through all phases of development.
- Ensure resilience and stability through quality code reviews, unit, regression and user acceptance testing, dev ops and level two production support.
- Be a leader with vision and a partner in brainstorming solutions for team productivity, efficiency, guiding and motivating others.
- Leverage AI-assisted tools (including LLMs and agentic workflows) to accelerate development, improve code quality, analyze production behavior, and support faster root-cause analysis, while applying sound engineering judgment, security controls, and human oversight.
- Drive a strong culture by bringing principles of inclusion and diversity to the team and setting the tone through specific recruiting, management actions and employee engagement.
Requirements
- B.S. / M.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related subject area
- 7+ years of proven experience, * Strong foundation in C++ (C++17 or later preferred) with object-oriented design skills and established design patterns.
- Hands-on experience with relational databases (Sybase ASE, Microsoft SQL Server or similar), including writing and tuning stored procedures and managing transactions.
- Experience maintaining and enhancing Order and/or Execution Management Systems, or comparable post-trade and position-management systems.
- Track record building high-quality software with design-focused and test-driven approaches.
- Comfort working in a Linux environment; familiarity with the GCC toolchain and debugging tools (gdb, valgrind, or similar).
- Strong unit, regression, and integration testing practices; experience with code-coverage tooling and static analysis (SonarQube or similar)
- Experience with agentic coding tools and a general understanding of how LLMs are applied to software development workflows.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, software architecture, and communication skills.
- Some experience or a real interest in finance, investment processes, and an ability to translate business problems into technical solutions (FX, Equities, Fixed Income, Futures).
- Experience leading development teams, projects, or being responsible for the design and technical quality of a significant system or component. Ability to form positive relationships with partnering teams, sponsors, and user groups.
Nice to Have & Opportunities to Learn:
- A proven foundation in core Java and related technologies; experience with Spring Framework or Spring Boot is a plus for cross-functional work with adjacent platform services.
- Experience with CMake-based build systems and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or similar).
- Experience with message-oriented streaming middleware (Kafka, AMPS, MQ, or similar).
- Familiarity with Perl scripting for test automation and operational tooling.
- Expertise in SQL and/or NoSQL technologies (MS SQL, Sybase, Cassandra, or Redis).
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and cloud deployment tools (Docker, Ansible, Terraform).
- Exposure to DevOps practices and tools such as Azure DevOps.
- Experience with Prompt Engineering and Agentic AI development patterns.
- Experience with optimization, algorithms, or related quantitative processes.

For NY7 - 50 Hudson Yards, New York Only the salary range for this position is USD$162,000.00 - USD$215,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including healthcare, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. For Princeton, NJ Only the salary range for this position is USD$148,000.00 - USD$200,000.00 .
