Job description

The purpose of this classification is to provide routine technical support and system administration for County hardware, software, personal computers, applications, communications systems, or other systems and networks as assigned. This is the entry level in the Information Systems Specialist series.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Installs and maintains personal computer hardware, software, peripherals, and telephone equipment: ensures availability and proper operation of products for installation; schedules installations; converts old system data to new system; tests installed products per department standards; and completes installations and conversions in timely manner and with minimal disruption.

Provides technical support for computer hardware, software, peripherals, and telephone equipment: identifies and resolves problems to restore service in a timely and efficient manner; designs new or modifies existing configurations to meet users' needs; and ensures that equipment and operations are in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and rules.

Troubleshoots end-user problems: responds to requests for assistance and resolves problems; escalates problem to vendors or other personnel as appropriate; ensures continual operations of hardware, software, peripherals and telephone equipment; and utilizes diagnostic tools and other resources as appropriate.

Supports access to assigned systems: maintains work station components; monitors and maintains security access levels; sets up accounting for new employees and closes accounts when no longer necessary; establishes port connections for new equipment to network as needed; resolves connectivity and network problems per established guidelines; limits user access to specific areas according to user needs; and documents procedures and changes on all systems.

Maintains programs, servers, networks, and communications infrastructure and related systems: installs updates and patches; backs up and monitors event logs; identifies potential problems; monitors the performance and security of

programs, databases and/or infrastructure systems; checks and maintains connectivity; upgrades servers; adds/deletes computers to/from network; manages user and email accounts and passwords; and monitors network settings, network software, and drivers.

Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: prepares, completes, receives, reviews, processes, forwards or retains, as appropriate, various forms, reports, correspondence, spreadsheets, diagrams, invoices, work orders, inventory reports, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.

Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.

Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains servers, switches, routers, vehicle, and other equipment.

Communicates with supervisor, other County employees, vendors, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Additional Functions:

Incumbents assigned to Jail Operations may also perform the following additional functions: performs routine HVAC maintenance, including checking and maintaining system components, resetting pilot light, etc.; monitors and escorts vendors; identifies and pulls requested surveillance videos; monitors and maintains surveillance equipment; and supervises and escorts inmates.

Performs other related duties as required., Human Interaction: Requires the ability to work with and apply principles of persuasion and/or influence over others to coordinate programs or activities of a project, and resolve typical problems associated with the responsibilities of the job.

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driver's License license?, Do you have experience in Math?, Do you have a Associate's degree?, Associate degree in Information Technology or related field required; supplemented by two years of experience providing technical support; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. Incumbents assigned to jail operations must possess and maintain the following additional certifications or licensures: Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and Basic Jail Officer.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all County or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Includes exercising discretion in determining actual or probable consequences and in referencing such evaluation to, Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dust, confined spaces, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, temperature and/or noise extremes, or rude/irate customers.
