Job description

The program is an IDIQ contract for an AWS-based cloud hosting system. Currently, Peraton is supporting the Cloud Security, IoT, and AIML use cases for the environment in a hybrid work environment with Federal employees. Peraton also support the following applications as part of the environment: Dremio, Tableau, Globus, Posit/RStudio, Atlassian, ThingLogix, Alteryx and CloudCheckr., The Department of Interior (DOI) CHS III program is leading the way for Cloud Hosting and Applications Modernization across DOI and its subordinate bureaus. CHS III is facilitating the migration of legacy on-premises applications to a modern, secure and scalable multi-cloud platform. From sensors in active volcanic regions to earthquake detection data, CHS III is the DOI's central cloud processing and data solution., * Incident Management: Participate in root cause analysis of system incidents.

  • Ticket Queue Management: Respond to and resolve tickets in the operations support queue in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring issues are tracked, documented, and closed according to SLAs.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Use tools such as AWS CloudFormation, GitLab and GitLab Runners to respond to support requests to manage and maintain AWS infrastructure, including EC2, RDS, S3, ELB, VPC, IAM Roles and Policies, Security Groups and related services.
  • Automation: Automate routine operational tasks to improve system reliability, security monitoring and configuration management using AWS step functions, lambda functions, SSM documents, AWS EventBridge, SNS, SQS using scripting languages such as python, bash and powershell.
  • Configuration Management: Implement configuration management solutions (e.g., Ansible, Chef, or AWS Systems Manager).
  • Monitoring and Logging: Set up and maintain observability tools (CloudWatch, DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, etc.) to monitor infrastructure and application performance.
  • Security and Compliance: Ensure security best practices (IAM policies, encryption, VPC design, secrets management) and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Cost Optimization: Analyze and optimize AWS cloud costs without compromising performance or scalability.
  • Collaboration and Leadership: Work cross-functionally with customer DevOps engineers, attend weekly team meetings and report status on open tickets and DevOps assignments.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Scalable systems?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, We are seeking an experienced and proactive Cloud DevOps Engineer to join our dynamic team. This fully remote position involves managing and optimizing AWS cloud infrastructure through tasks such as incident management, ticket resolution, automation of operational tasks using scripting languages, and configuration management using tools like CloudFormation, Terraform, and Ansible. Candidates must be U.S. Citizens with an active or attainable Public Trust clearance, have AWS certifications (or the ability to obtain one within 90 days), and possess at least three years of experience with AWS services, CI/CD pipelines, scripting, and Infrastructure as Code. Preferred qualifications include expertise in advanced AWS certifications, AI tools, Agile workflows, and tools like Dremio or Tableau.   • Candidate must have an Active Public Trust or the Ability to Obtain one is required
  • 2 years with BS/BA; 0 years with MS/MA; 6 years with HS Diploma/Equivalent
  • 3 or more years professional job experience designing, deploying, and managing cloud-based solutions using core AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, CloudFormation, and IAM for secure and scalable infrastructure.
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery CI/CD pipelines using AWS CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, GitLab, GitLab Runners, or other third-party tools to automate application deployments.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, or AWS CDK to automate cloud resource provisioning and configuration management.
  • Experience with Python, Bash, AWS CLI, or other scripting languages to automate deployments, streamline workflows, troubleshoot issues, and resolve operational challenges within AWS environments.
  • Candidate must have at least one of the following certifications or be able to attain within 90 Days:
  • AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer - Associate
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional
  • AWS Certified Developer - Associate
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate or Professional, * One or more AWS Specialty Certification(s) such:
  • AWS Certified Advanced Networking - Specialty
  • AWS Certified Security - Specialty
  • AWS AI Fundamentals
  • Experience with incident management, root cause analysis, and resolving high-priority incidents in large, multi-tenant environments using Jira, Confluence, etc.
  • Exemplary communication, analytical skills, and technical knowledge across the client environment.
  • Ability to produce concise and clear technical documentation.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Experience in leveraging AI tools to accelerate workflows and code generation, and for producing concise and clear technical AI-assisted documentation.
  • Experience with using or supporting applications such as Dremio, Tableau, Posit and/or Nebari

Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
