Job description

The Sr Scrum Master is a servant-leader and coach accountable for ensuring their assigned Scrum Team(s) understand and effectively enacts Scrum principles to deliver valuable technology solutions predictably. This role focuses on maximizing the team's efficiency and protecting their focus, facilitating the removal of organizational impediments, and continuously coaching the team and organization on effective Agile practices. The Sr Scrum Master will:

  • Agile Enablement & Team Coaching
  • Ceremony Leadership: Accountable for expertly facilitating all core Scrum ceremonies, including Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Retrospectives
  • Coaching & Self-Management: Coach the Development Team in self-management and cross-functionality, ensuring clear understanding and adherence to the team's defined Definition of Ready (DoR) and Definition of Done (DoD)
  • Continuous Improvement: Facilitate effective Retrospectives that foster psychological safety, resulting in clear, actionable improvements tracked for continuous application across processes and practices
  • Scaling Proficiency: Demonstrate practical experience with scaling frameworks (e.g., SAFe, LeSS, Scrum@Scale) to enable enterprise-scale Agile delivery and release management
  • Organizational Impediment Removal & Delivery Flow
  • Servant Leadership & Protection: Act as a servant-leader, proactively identifying and removing impediments to the team's progress, and strictly protecting the team from unnecessary external distractions or pressure
  • Systemic Impediment Removal: Work across functional groups and organizational layers to address systemic impediments and coach the broader organization on how to interact productively with the Scrum Team
  • Delivery Transparency & Metrics: Maintain high visibility and transparency of the team's progress, delivery cadence, and health by tracking and communicating key metrics such as velocity, lead time, and burndown
  • Backlog Partnership: Support the Product Owner/Manager in ensuring the Product Backlog is clearly defined, refined, prioritized, and readily available for the team to commit to
  • Review & Feedback Loop: Facilitate the Sprint Review, ensuring effective demonstration of completed work and that stakeholder feedback is systematically captured and integrated back into the backlog
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned
  • Demonstrate behaviors which are aligned with the organization's desired culture and values

Requirements

  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience as a dedicated Scrum Master for a software development team
  • Expert Facilitation: Proven ability to run high-impact meetings, manage conflict, and drive consensus among diverse team members and stakeholders
  • Agile Tool Proficiency: Familiarity with modern Agile and ALM tools such as Jira, Rally, or Azure DevOps
  • Technical Acumen: Ability to understand technical concepts, development processes, and the complexities of software release management
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and presentation skills suitable for technical and executive audiences
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to manage complex tasks and priorities within a fast-paced environmentAgile Tool Proficiency: Familiarity with modern Agile and ALM tools such as Jira, Rally, or Azure DevOps
  • Technical Acumen: Ability to understand technical concepts, development processes, and the complexities of software release management
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and presentation skills suitable for technical and executive audiences
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to manage complex tasks and priorities within a fast-paced environment
  • Professional Scrum Master Certification: CSM, A-CSM, CSP-SM, and/or CSPO desired
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) desired
  • Experience in a regulated industry, such as mortgage finance desired
  • Experience helping to stand up new teams from inception, including defining their DoR/DoD, working agreements, and initial metrics desired
