Job description
This position is for a SMT Engineer or highly experienced SMT Technician to serve as a SMT Engineer for an established and mature Surface Mount Technology plant at Myotek in Manistee, Michigan. This high-volume plant produces nine different PCBA's and has a total weekly output of 40K PCBA. The ideal candidate will be a bridge between Design, Operations, and Quality to ensure that all new products are manufacturable, cost-effective, and fully compliant with quality standards.
The SMT Engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver prototype boards on time, ensuring they meet all quality and traceability requirements. Responsibilities include participating in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) activities and generating detailed reports on all NPI/prototype builds to validate manufacturability.
This role will work closely with Manufacturing to transition new products into production, incorporating all lessons learned during process design and development. The candidate must demonstrate strong working knowledge of SMT processes, including Printing, SPI (Solder Paste Inspection), Component Placement, Reflow Oven, AOI (Automated Optical Inspection), ICT (In-Circuit Testing), and De-Paneling, as well as all other secondary operations.
Additional responsibilities may include designing and specifying tooling for new PCBA products. The SMT Engineer will also interface with equipment vendors throughout the design, release, and lifecycle management of pilot and mass production equipment, following the Myotek/Production process. A commitment to workplace safety and adherence to all safety policies is essential.
Specific Duties:

Lead SMT NPI activities from prototype through production release.

Participate in DFM reviews of PCBA layouts, BOMs, and processes.

Develop process flows, stencils, tooling, and fixturing new products.

Coordinate prototype builds, ensuring quality, material traceability, and on-time delivery.

Capable of programming all SMT equipment for NPI/prototype runs

Provide written feedback and lessons learned from each prototype run.

Support customer and third-party audits.

Troubleshoot equipment issues, perform root cause analysis, and work with Maintenance to ensure reliability.

Prepare reports, documentation, and technical correspondence.

Present technical information and updates to management and cross-functional teams.

Collaborate daily with technical staff on assignments, progress, and problem-solving.
Requirements
10+ years of experience in SMT manufacturing (print, placement, reflow, AOI, ICT)

5+ years of NPI Engineering (Preferred)

Engineering degree or equivalent technical experience (10+ yrs)
