Job description
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot fiber optic and wireless network equipment
- Run, terminate, and test fiber, Ethernet, and telephone cabling
- Configure and test network switches and other networking hardware
- Work on rooftops, towers, attics, crawlspaces, and underground pathways
- Climb ladders, stairs, and towers safely (up to 350 feet)
- Perform light construction tasks including drilling, mounting, trenching, and repairs
- Locate and mark underground utilities using locator equipment
- Operate hand tools, power tools, trenchers, lifts, and related equipment
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to service outages as needed
Requirements
This role requires prior technical or field experience. While we will train the right candidate, we are looking for someone who brings a strong work history, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team., * Previous experience in fiber, wireless, telecom, networking, utilities, construction, or related field work
- Experience with Ethernet and telephone wiring installation and testing
- Basic networking knowledge and comfort working with technical equipment
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot and solve problems
- Strong work history with reliability and consistency
- Ability to follow safety procedures and technical documentation
Physical & Schedule Requirements
- Ability to work at heights up to 350 feet
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform climbing, bending, kneeling, and overhead work
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics and crawlspaces
- On-call rotation required
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required
Additional Requirements
- Must live within 15 miles of Urbana, IL
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening and post-incident testing if required
- Comfortable using smartphones, mobile apps, and computers
- Professional communication skills and customer-facing professionalism
- Reliable smartphone with unlimited text and data (reimbursement provided), * Low voltage: 3 years (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- Driver's License (Required)
