Job description

Lightworx Fiber is seeking an experienced Fiber Optic Construction Project Manager to lead the successful planning, execution, and closeout of fiber optic infrastructure projects in Washington State. This role is responsible for managing all phases of construction, including project planning, budgeting, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, quality assurance, and customer communication.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in telecommunications construction, with experience overseeing both outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) fiber deployments. This is a highly visible, customer-facing role that requires excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills, along with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesProject Planning & Execution

  • Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and milestones.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules and work plans.
  • Coordinate engineering, permitting, construction, and closeout activities.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Prepare project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports.
  • Track expenses and manage change orders.
  • Allocate labor, equipment, and materials efficiently.
  • Review and approve vendor and subcontractor invoices.

Construction Management

  • Oversee all aspects of fiber optic construction, including aerial, underground, and MDU deployments.
  • Coordinate field crews, subcontractors, inspectors, and utility partners.
  • Conduct site visits to monitor progress and resolve issues.
  • Ensure adherence to project specifications and construction standards.

Communication

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Provide regular project updates to clients and senior leadership.
  • Manage escalations, risks, and issue resolution.
  • Foster strong relationships with customers and project stakeholders.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation plans.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, local permitting requirements, and industry standards.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and reporting.

Quality Assurance & Closeout

  • Coordinate fiber testing, splicing validation, and acceptance procedures.
  • Review as-built drawings and closeout documentation.
  • Ensure all punch-list items are completed and customer acceptance is achieved.

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driver's License license?, Do you have experience in Underground utilities?, Do you have a Associate's degree?, * Associate's degree or equivalent practical experience required.

  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.

Experience

  • 2-6+ years of project management experience in telecommunications, utility, or construction environments.
  • Proven experience managing fiber optic construction projects, including OSP and ISP installations.
  • Experience working with subcontractors, municipalities, and utility companies.

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of fiber optic network construction methods and standards.
  • Familiarity with FTTx, GPON, and fiber splicing and testing processes.
  • Knowledge of permitting, right-of-way, and utility coordination.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Fiber optic certifications are a plus.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong leadership and team coordination skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and conflict-resolution abilities.
