Job description

  • Serve as the Tier III Subject Matter Expert for COBOL applications, providing advanced technical support and troubleshooting for complex application issues.
  • Design, develop, configure, and maintain COBOL software applications and related modules in support of enterprise business operations.
  • Analyze application requirements and develop enhancements, fixes, and custom solutions to improve system performance and functionality.
  • Support application lifecycle management, including design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software defects, integration issues, and performance bottlenecks within COBOL applications.
  • Maintain system documentation, architecture diagrams, and configuration standards for COBOL environments.
  • Application Deployment & Configuration Management
  • Develop and manage automated deployment solutions for COBOL applications using enterprise endpoint management tools.
  • Build and maintain application installation packages and deployment scripts for enterprise distribution.
  • Support software version control, patch management, and release management for COBOL applications.
  • Ensure COBOL applications are deployed consistently across enterprise systems and maintained at supported versions.
  • Integration & Systems Engineering
  • Integrate COBOL applications with enterprise platforms and services, including directory services, collaboration tools, and monitoring systems.
  • Support system integrations with authentication services, security tools, and enterprise data sources.
  • Develop and maintain APIs, scripts, and automation tools to support system interoperability and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure COBOL systems adhere to enterprise architecture and security standards.
  • Security, Compliance & Performance Monitoring
  • Implement and maintain security controls and compliance requirements within COBOL applications.
  • Monitor application performance, system health, and usage metrics to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Support application logging, auditing, and reporting capabilities.
  • Ensure applications meet Information Assurance and enterprise security guidelines.
  • Automation & Scripting
  • Develop automation solutions using PowerShell, scripting languages, and configuration management tools.
  • Create scripts to support application deployment, monitoring, and operational maintenance.
  • Implement automation to streamline system administration and reduce manual processes.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements

Cherokee Federal is hiring a COBOL Application Development & Support expert to serve as our Tier III SME for mission-critical enterprise applications. You will design, enhance, troubleshoot, and sustain COBOL capabilities across the full application lifecycle-owning complex defect resolution, performance tuning, and production support. You will also drive automated deployments, packaging, and release management; build scripts and APIs to improve interoperability; and ensure solutions meet security, compliance, and enterprise architecture standards. Ideal candidates bring 7+ years in enterprise application support/development, strong automation (PowerShell) skills, and experience working in regulated or federal environments., * 7+ years of experience supporting enterprise software development and application support environments.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting and maintaining COBOL software applications or similar enterprise platforms.
  • Strong experience with software development, application troubleshooting, and production support.
  • Experience developing automation scripts and deployment tools.
  • Strong understanding of application lifecycle management and release processes.
  • Experience supporting enterprise IT environments and complex system integrations.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting federal government or regulated IT environments.
  • Familiarity with enterprise application deployment and configuration management tools.
  • Experience implementing secure application architectures and Zero Trust principles.
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes for incident, change, and problem management.
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring and logging platforms.

  • Experience working as a Tier III escalation point for critical application environments.

Benefits & conditions

Estimated Starting Salary Range for COBOL Application Development & Support - Part Time : $70.00-$75.00/HOUR

Pay commensurate with experience.

Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, and other possible benefits as provided. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice.
