Overview: Our telecommunications client is seeking a Systems Engineer III to serve as a DNS Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the lab environment. This is a high visibility, long-term contract role focused on the ownership, stability, and operational excellence of DNS services.
This engineer will be the primary owner of DNS, ensuring the environment is reliable, scalable, and resilient across the enterprise lab. While the broader team supports multiple infrastructure platforms, this role's primary focus is DNS, filling a critical ownership gap identified during a recent IPAM/DNS migration., Serve as the primary owner of DNS services within the lab environment
Provide operational support for DNS, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and break/fix resolution
Support daily DNS requests such as domain and subdomain creation, updates, and configuration changes
Investigate and resolve DNSrelated issues impacting application reachability, name resolution, and traffic flow
Determine whether DNS is the root cause during incidents and validate configuration accuracy
Learn and maintain a deep understanding of the end-to-end DNS architecture, including routing, traffic flow, and infrastructure dependencies
Interpret and work from architectural diagrams to support issue resolution and future stability
Help eliminate single points of failure and reduce risk through thoughtful operational practices
Partner with senior engineers during complex troubleshooting and outages
Lead or contribute to DNSrelated initiatives and enhancements, meeting commitments and deadlines
Collaborate closely with network, systems, and application teams to support enterprise infrastructure needs
Work with project managers to align DNS activities with broader project timelines
Participate in additional team projects as needed once DNS ownership is established
Act as a senior technical resource for DNS related questions
Mentor and support junior engineers (without expectation to fully cross train them to SME depth
Communicate clearly and confidently during incidents, including updates to impacted teams
Demonstrate ownership, accountability, and a proactive mindset in high-pressure situations

Requirements
This is a senior level, hands-on role that requires deep DNS expertise, strong communication skills, and comfort operating in a large, enterprise environment where DNS issues can have widespread impact.
Desired Skill Set:
4-5+ years of hands-on experience owning and managing DNS in a production environment (not just supporting it incidentally)
Strong understanding of DNS architecture, operations, and troubleshooting
Experience supporting DNS in large, enterprise or corporate environments
Solid Linux administration experience
Ability to trace traffic, analyze failures, and resolve complex DNS related issues
Proven experience leading technical work or projects
Strong communication skills and comfort operating in high visibility environments
Willingness to take ownership and jump into issues when they arise
