Job description

Rocklin Unified School District is hiring a senior Network Systems Engineer. This is a hands-on enterprise infrastructure role where networking is the primary mission - LAN/WAN architecture, HP/Aruba switching and routing, enterprise wireless, firewall security, OSPF-based redundancy, protocol analysis, and API-driven monitoring. If you've spent years mastering enterprise networks and you want a role where the network is truly yours to own, this was written for you., * Design, implement, and maintain district-wide LAN/WAN - HP/Aruba and/or Cisco switching, routing, and core/distribution/access layer architecture across 20+ sites

  • Manage enterprise wireless networks: high availability, seamless roaming, and traffic optimization across all district locations
  • Implement and maintain OSPF-based failover and redundancy to ensure uninterrupted service
  • Administer DNS, DHCP, VPN, VLANs, SD-WAN, VXLAN, and advanced tunneling protocols
  • Perform packet captures and deep protocol analysis to isolate and resolve network-layer issues
  • Maintain firewalls, IDS/IPS, zero-trust security models, and network access control
  • Administer Windows Server, Linux, Active Directory, Azure AD, and Microsoft Intune
  • Manage VMware virtualization, iSCSI SAN/NAS storage, and enterprise backup/DR systems
  • Maintain district-wide device fleet: imaging, deployment, and lifecycle management across all sites
  • Document all infrastructure changes, maintain network diagrams, and communicate maintenance windows proactively, * Build and maintain API-driven monitoring dashboards integrating SIEM solutions for real-time network health and security visibility
  • Implement deep logging and accountability systems tracking all admin changes, firmware updates, and configuration modifications
  • Collaborate with the Systems Engineer - Security Emphasis to enforce zero-trust models, NAC, and segmented network security across all sites
  • Use Python, Ansible, or PowerShell scripting for network automation, monitoring, and configuration management
  • Develop and test network-layer disaster recovery and failover strategies to ensure business continuity
  • Evaluate next-generation networking technologies and present evidence-based recommendations to the CTO
  • Mentor district and site-based technicians on network management, troubleshooting, and best practices

Requirements

Do you have experience in Wireless networking?, * 4+ years of hands-on enterprise network administration experience

  • Expert-level HP/Aruba and/or Cisco switching, routing, and wireless in production environments
  • OSPF, VLANs, VPNs, ACLs, SD-WAN, DNS, DHCP - real production experience, not just familiarity
  • Protocol analysis and packet capture experience (Wireshark or equivalent)
  • Firewall administration and network security enforcement
  • Windows Server and Linux administration; Active Directory, Azure AD, Intune
  • VMware or equivalent virtualization experience
  • SAN/NAS storage administration and enterprise backup/DR

WHAT SETS YOU APART (STRONGLY PREFERRED)

  • CCNP, ACMX, or equivalent advanced networking certification
  • SIEM platform experience and API-driven dashboard development
  • Python, Ansible, or PowerShell scripting for network automation
  • SD-WAN design and implementation experience
  • K-12 education or public-sector IT experience, * Enterprise Systems Engineering: 4 years (Preferred)
