Cybersecurity Engineer

The Cybersecurity Engineer - Operational Technology (OT) Water Operations is responsible for supporting and securing critical OT infrastructure used in water and wastewater operations, including SCADA systems, industrial control systems (ICS), servers, network infrastructure, and backup/recovery environments. The role focuses on cybersecurity, system reliability, disaster recovery preparedness, server backup administration, and validation testing to ensure operational continuity and regulatory compliance.

The position works closely with Operations, SCADA, IT Infrastructure, and Engineering teams to maintain secure and resilient operational technology environments supporting 24/7 water operations., Cybersecurity & OT Security

• Support cybersecurity initiatives for Operational Technology (OT) and Industrial Control Systems (ICS) environments.
• Monitor OT systems for cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and unauthorized access.
• Assist in implementing cybersecurity standards, policies, and best practices for SCADA and operational networks.
• Support firewall management, endpoint protection, patch management, and secure remote access solutions.
• Participate in cybersecurity incident response, investigations, and remediation activities.
• Maintain compliance with organizational cybersecurity requirements and applicable industry standards.

Server Backup & Recovery Administration

• Administer and maintain backup solutions for OT servers, SCADA systems, historians, engineering workstations, and virtual environments.
• Configure, schedule, monitor, and troubleshoot server backup jobs.
• Verify successful completion of daily, weekly, and monthly backups.
• Perform routine backup validation and integrity checks.
• Conduct backup restoration testing to confirm recoverability of operational systems and data.
• Develop and maintain disaster recovery and backup restoration procedures.
• Ensure backup retention policies and storage requirements are maintained.

Operational Technology Support

• Support SCADA servers, HMI systems, application servers, virtualization platforms, and OT network infrastructure.
• Coordinate maintenance activities with Operations to minimize system disruption.
• Support high-availability and redundant system architectures within SCC and backup control center environments.
• Assist with system upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure improvement projects.
• Document OT assets, configurations, backup procedures, and recovery testing results.

Monitoring & Compliance

• Monitor server health, storage utilization, backup status, and cybersecurity alerts.
• Generate reports related to backup success rates, recovery testing, vulnerabilities, and compliance metrics.
• Support audits, risk assessments, and operational continuity reviews.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation and change management records.

Collaboration & Communication

• Work collaboratively with Operations, SCADA Engineers, Network Engineers, IT staff, and vendors.
• Provide technical recommendations for improving system resilience and cybersecurity posture.
• Participate in emergency response and after-hours support as required.

Do you have experience in Windows support?, * Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in cybersecurity, systems administration, or Operational Technology environments.
• Experience supporting server backup and disaster recovery solutions.
• Experience working with SCADA, ICS, or critical infrastructure environments preferred.
• Knowledge of Windows Server administration, virtualization platforms, and network fundamentals.
• Familiarity with backup platforms such as Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik, Veritas, or similar technologies.
• Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and OT security principles.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills., * Experience in water/wastewater utilities or critical infrastructure operations.
• Knowledge of NIST, ISA/IEC 62443, or other OT cybersecurity standards.
• Relevant certifications such as:
