Job description

The Systems Software Engineer supports Chelan PUD's mission of delivering reliable, innovative utility services by designing, developing, maintaining, and improving software solutions that enable critical business and operational systems. This role contributes to secure, scalable, and high-performing applications while advancing Agile and DevOps practices across the organization. Depending on experience level, incumbents build foundational engineering skills, independently deliver complex technical solutions, and may provide mentorship, technical leadership, and strategic guidance to improve software quality, team effectiveness, and continuous innovation in support of District operations., * Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain secure, scalable, and reliable software solutions using modern development frameworks and engineering practices.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Business Analysts, Security, Infrastructure, Quality Assurance, and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Participate in Agile and DevOps processes including sprint planning, backlog refinement, code reviews, deployments, retrospectives, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze requirements, troubleshoot software issues, identify technical risks, and support solution design to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Contribute to documentation, knowledge sharing, and adoption of engineering standards, best practices, and District software development processes.
  • Support team growth through collaboration, mentoring, coaching, and fostering a culture of learning, accountability, and innovation.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Working in the energy & utilities sector?, Do you have a Bachelor of Science?, Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Computer Science or a related field is required; equivalent experience may substitute year-for-year for education requirements.

Positions are filled at varying levels based on experience, ranging from entry-level candidates with foundational software engineering knowledge to experienced professionals with 5+ years designing and delivering complex software solutions.

Experience working within Agile environments, DevOps practices, modern development frameworks, and software lifecycle methodologies is preferred. Utility industry experience and relevant certifications in Agile, DevOps, cloud technologies, or related disciplines are desirable.

Skills & Abilities

  • Software Engineering & System Design: Ability to develop, analyze, and design maintainable, scalable, and reliable software solutions aligned with architectural standards.
  • Agile, DevOps & CI/CD Practices: Experience contributing to Agile teams, sprint processes, automated deployments, and continuous integration/continuous delivery pipelines.
  • Programming Quality & Secure Development: Knowledge of version control, code reviews, testing strategies, secure coding practices, and software quality standards.
  • Problem Solving & Systems Analysis: Ability to interpret requirements, troubleshoot issues, perform root cause analysis, and identify technical risks and solutions.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Effectively work with technical and non-technical stakeholders while documenting solutions and communicating progress, challenges, and recommendations.
  • Continuous Improvement & Leadership: Commitment to learning, innovation, process improvement, and-at higher levels-mentoring, coaching, and supporting team development.

BACKGROUND SCREENING

Pursuant to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards, Chelan County Public Utility District #1 conducts background screening of personnel who have access to the District's critical physical and/or cyber assets.

  • Paid time off, The advertised hiring range for level I will be $82,800, - $103,500, with a maximum opportunity of up to $124,200 with tenure and strong performance.

The advertised hiring range for level II will be $94,400, - $118,000, with a maximum opportunity of up to $141,600 with tenure and strong performance.

The advertised hiring range for level III will be $113,520, - $141,900, with a maximum opportunity of up to $170,280 with tenure and strong performance.

Introductory Period: New employees holding regular positions must complete an introductory period of twelve months.
