Senior Linux Operations Engineer - Red Hat Infrastructure & Automation

We are looking for a Senior Linux Operations Engineer to join a long-term project within a European institutional environment in Brussels. The professional will support the engineering, operation, maintenance, and evolution of critical compute and storage infrastructures used by the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union.

You will be part of the Central Infrastructure team, working in a highly secure and operationally critical environment focused on Linux server infrastructure, automation, containerization, and infrastructure reliability. The role combines operational excellence, infrastructure engineering, DevOps practices, and strategic technology evolution.

Responsibilities

• Administer, configure, harden, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers (physical and virtual)
• Manage large-scale Linux infrastructures, including monitoring, troubleshooting, patching, and lifecycle management
• Participate in infrastructure and platform projects together with development, networking, security, and architecture teams
• Design and support Linux-based application environments and containerized solutions
• Manage automated deployment processes and infrastructure automation using Ansible and scripting tools
• Administer Red Hat Satellite for package distribution and patch management
• Manage Red Hat Identity Management (IdM) and administrative access for Linux environments
• Configure and maintain SSH keys, certificates, service accounts, and system security controls
• Support Docker and Kubernetes container environments
• Participate in incident, problem, change, and configuration management activities
• Monitor infrastructure health, performance, and operational metrics
• Contribute to disaster recovery, operational procedures, and infrastructure documentation
• Participate in proof of concepts, infrastructure modernization initiatives, and strategic technology studies
• Collaborate on infrastructure architecture evaluations and operational improvements
• Support operational quality assurance, SLA follow-up, and continuous service improvement initiatives
• Contribute to training activities and technical knowledge sharing within the team

Do you have experience in vCenter?, * University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent

• Strong experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments (RHEL 6/7/8)
• Proven experience with Linux infrastructure operations in enterprise environments
• Strong knowledge of Ansible and infrastructure automation
• Experience with Red Hat Satellite and Linux patch management
• Experience with shell scripting and/or Python scripting
• Strong knowledge of Linux hardening, vulnerability management, and security best practices
• Experience with VMware virtualization environments
• Experience with incident management, troubleshooting, and operational support activities
• Experience working in ITIL-oriented operational environments
• Strong documentation and communication skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and container technologies
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevOps practices
• Experience with SAN/storage technologies and hyperconverged infrastructures (Nutanix)
• Knowledge of ESX and vCenter environments
• Experience with cloud or hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure)
• Experience participating in infrastructure architecture studies and proof of concepts

• Fluent English (mandatory)
• French is a plus
