Job description

Working for Glanua is exciting, challenging and incredibly rewarding. As Southern Area HSQE Manager, you will lead the HSQE function across the Southern region, including Thames frameworks and projects delivered by Marches Biogas and Aqua Operations Ltd within the region. You will be responsible for leading the HSQE team and the implementation and continuous improvement of our HSQE systems, working closely with site teams to ensure projects and operations are delivered safely, sustainably, and that risks are effectively managed.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The main duties and responsibilities of the Southern HSQE Manager are outlined as follows:

  • Lead and manage the HSQE function across the Southern region, including Thames frameworks and projects delivered by Marches Biogas and Aqua Operations Ltd.
  • Promote and embed a strong Health, Safety, Quality, Environmental and Sustainability (HSQE&S) culture across all operations.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for HSQE matters, providing expert advice and direction to operational teams, contractors and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, company policies and industry best practice, maintaining awareness of legislative changes.
  • Develop, implement and continuously improve HSQE systems, procedures and controls to support safe and effective delivery of projects and operations.
  • Ensure ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards are implemented, maintained and audited across all sites, offices and operational facilities.
  • Own and manage sustainability performance across the Southern region, ensuring targets, controls and improvement plans are delivered.
  • Ensure sustainability data is accurate, robust and suitable for internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Embed sustainability requirements into HSQE systems, operational processes and project delivery.
  • Provide visible HSQE leadership on sites, ensuring that risks are appropriately assessed and that mitigation measures are implemented and maintained.
  • Carry out site inspections and audits, produce reports and ensuring timely close-out of actions.
  • Lead and support incident and accident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis is completed and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Report major incidents to the HSQE Director in a timely manner.
  • Manage HSQE documentation and ensure compliance across client, supplier and subcontractor interfaces.
  • Maintain key registers, including NCRs and legal compliance registers, ensuring effective governance and document control.
  • Act as the main point of contact for client, regulatory and certification audits, facilitating internal and external audit processes.
  • Establish and monitor HSQE and sustainability performance metrics, ensuring appropriate reporting and communication across the organisation.
  • Promote awareness of customer and contractual requirements and ensure these are embedded within operational delivery.
  • Identify training needs and ensure appropriate HSQE and sustainability training programmes are implemented.
  • Assign HSQE responsibilities to competent people and support the development of team capability.
  • Ensure all required environmental permits and licenses are in place and maintained across operations, including Marches Biogas and Aqua Operations activities.
  • Maintain effective relationships with regulatory bodies and external stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

The main knowledge, skills and experience required of the Southern Area HSQE Manager are outlined as follows

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driving License license?, Do you have experience in Wastewater treatment?, * Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar HSQE role, preferably within the civils, water, wastewater, energy or related sectors.

  • Extensive working knowledge of UK Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, regulations and best practice requirements.
  • Minimum of a Level 6 (or equivalent) qualification in Health and Safety or related discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience in implementing and managing HSQE management systems across multiple sites or operations.
  • Experience of working across complex operational environments, ideally including contractor and client-facing roles.
  • Strong and proven ability to influence change, drive behavioral improvement and champion best practice across diverse teams.
  • Experience in leading investigations, audits and compliance activities, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Understanding sustainability principles and experience integrating sustainability into operational or HSQE frameworks is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage at all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, PowerPoint) and competence in using digital systems and mobile technologies.
  • Full UK Driving License.
