Job description

Provides technical and administrative support to the Network Administrator; monitors, coordinates, and oversees daily functions of support staff., The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Shown are duties intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

Assist in coordinating the continuous development, operation and maintenance of the WAN/LAN; installs software upgrades and enhancements; documents work performed.

Tests, evaluates and enhances network hardware and software; adds and deletes components as required; configures software and tunes hardware for maximum network performance.

Assist and perform computer trouble-shooting to diagnose network system problems; analyzes network computer and peripherals' functionality; identifies, locates, resolves and repairs problems; documents work performed.

Assist in overseeing the communications network system; perform maintenance and repairs; troubleshooting techniques and daily system functions.

Monitors Network Support Group's operations and procedures, and submits recommendations for improving daily functions of technical systems and staff.

Coordinates staff; plans, prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects.

Tests evaluates and enhances server and PC hardware and software; adds deletes components as required; configures software upgrades and enhancements; documents work performed.

Oversee directory structure to maintain local user accounts and system security for e-mail and shared files.

Remains current on trends and technology changes; evaluate new hardware, software and related equipment for functionality and fit to current operating environment and user needs.

Maintains cooperative working relations with the departments and computer users.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driver's License license?, Do you have experience in Management?, Do you have a Associate's degree?, Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures. Knowledge of principles and capabilities of computer systems, including networked environments and peripheral devices .

Knowledge of Local Area Network (LAN) principles.

Knowledge of hardware and software troubleshooting techniques.

Knowledge of local system access and security guidelines and procedures.

Knowledge of specialized software applications which are unique to departments.

Skill in exercising initiative to apply effective troubleshooting procedures for computer systems in a networked operation system environment.

Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands, and delegating tasks.

Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required

Associate's Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent.

Four years of network computer hardware and software support work experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience;

Three years experience in a customer service environment;

Three years supervisory experience;

Ability to pass Security Clearance with the State of Alaska Department of Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) within 60 days of hire.

Valid Driver's License from the state the individual is currently residing in and have the ability to obtain a valid Alaska Driver's License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria within 30 days of employment.
