Job description

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Systems Programmer/DBA to lead and support complex database system initiatives for legacy enterprise environments. This role is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, enhancement, testing, and implementation of core database and system software products supporting enterprise database architecture and business operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in mainframe database administration, systems programming, performance tuning, and legacy platform support within large-scale enterprise environments.

  • Lead and/or support complex database upgrade, installation, configuration, testing, implementation, and maintenance projects.
  • Manage and maintain mainframe database environments including hierarchical, relational, and file-based database systems such as IMS, DB2, and ADABAS.
  • Plan and execute database upgrades and enhancements in alignment with organizational standards and operational requirements.
  • Monitor and verify database health, performance, capacity, and availability across production environments.
  • Provide technical consulting and support to application development and operations teams for project planning and implementation activities.
  • Perform technical reviews and evaluations of systems utilizing ADABAS, DB2, and IMS database management systems.
  • Develop logical and physical database designs, including database structures, storage allocation, partitioning, compression, replication, backup, and recovery strategies.
  • Conduct database reorganizations, performance tuning, and space management activities to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Evaluate new database management tools and software products and recommend improvements to existing environments.
  • Support database security, integrity, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Maintain technical documentation related to database architecture, procedures, and system configurations., * This position follows a hybrid work schedule. The selected candidate will be required to work on-site two (2) days per week.
  • Please note: this is a Systems Programmer/DBA position focused on mainframe infrastructure and database administration. Mainframe application developer profiles will not be considered for this role.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Tooling?, * Strong expertise with IBM mainframe technologies and database environments.

  • Hands-on experience with IBM z/OS, IMS, DB2, ADABAS, SMP/E, JCL, IMS DB/DC, and CICS.
  • Experience with ACF2 security administration and tools such as IBM File Manager, DELTA/IMS, NATURAL/SUPERNAT, ENTIREX, CA SPOOL, IMS & DB2 BMC Tools, and N20/TRIM.
  • Knowledge of ASSEMBLER, COBOL, and REXX scripting/programming.
  • Strong understanding of database administration concepts including backup/recovery, performance monitoring, capacity planning, replication, compression, and partitioning.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex database and systems-related issues.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
