Job description
Dobbs Defense Solutions is seeking an experienced UX Specialist to support a high-profile digital modernization initiative focused on improving usability, accessibility, and user experience across large-scale public-facing web platforms. The ideal candidate will combine UX research, usability testing, interaction design, and accessibility-aware design practices to create intuitive and compliant digital experiences aligned with government design system standards., * Develop and execute focused UX research plans tied to implementation and modernization objectives.
- Conduct usability testing, card sorting, tree testing, heuristic evaluations, stakeholder validation sessions, and task-based walkthroughs.
- Identify usability barriers and provide actionable recommendations related to navigation, service pathways, content organization, and user workflows.
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for key page templates and digital experiences.
- Utilize Maryland Web Design System components and Drupal theme constraints during design activities.
- Collaborate with content strategists, technical business analysts, and architects to align UX decisions with business, content, and technical requirements.
- Document UX findings, accessibility considerations, design rationale, and implementation recommendations.
- Support backlog refinement and implementation planning through design handoff documentation and user story collaboration.
- Assist with strategic planning efforts by summarizing audience needs, usability findings, and implementation considerations.
Requirements
Do you have experience in WCAG?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Bachelor's degree in UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Information Systems, or related field required.
- 8+ years of UX research, UX design, interaction design, or service design experience.
- 5+ years supporting large-scale public-facing websites or enterprise digital platforms.
- 3+ years conducting usability testing, heuristic reviews, tree testing, card sorting, or evaluative UX research.
- Strong proficiency with Figma required.
- Experience working with component-based design systems and government design standards strongly preferred.
- Experience with WCAG 2.1/2.2, Section 508, inclusive design, and accessibility-focused UX methodologies.
- Experience supporting Maryland state agencies, healthcare organizations, public health agencies, or comparable public-sector environments strongly preferred.
- Experience working within Agile or hybrid delivery environments preferred.
- CUA, NN/g UX Certification, HFI CXA/CUA, IAAP CPACC/WAS, or equivalent UX certification preferred., * UX research planning
