Job description
An opportunity has arisen for a Satellite Systems Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team working on next-generation satellite communications architectures.
This role focuses on the design, analysis, and development of advanced space payload systems for telecommunications applications, supporting complex satellite missions across LEO, MEO, GEO, and highly elliptical orbits. You will contribute to cutting-edge R&D programmes spanning system definition through to in-orbit commissioning.
You will work at the forefront of satellite communications system design, with responsibility across mission analysis, system architecture, payload design support, and technical trade-offs. The role requires a strong understanding of spaceborne communication systems and the ability to contribute across the full development lifecycle, from requirements definition through to integration and operational support., * Lead mission analysis activities and translate system requirements into lower-level specifications
- Define system SWaP-C (Size, Weight, Power, Cost) constraints and manage cross-domain interface definitions (RF, digital, electrical, optical, mechanical, thermal)
- Lead architectural trade studies, link budget analysis, and system-level design decisions
- Support and challenge external contractors and subcontractors on technical delivery
- Assist with reliability analysis and system-level simulation activities
- Support spacecraft and payload qualification activities, including platform and component selection input
- Contribute to programme planning, technical reporting, and customer-facing programme discussions
- Support integration, test campaigns, launch preparation, and in-orbit commissioning activities
- Participate in design reviews, manufacturing oversight, qualification reviews, and progress reporting
Requirements
Do you have experience in System design?, Do you have a Master's degree?, * Master's or PhD in Engineering (e.g. Satellite Communications, Telecommunications, Electronics, or Digital Systems)
- 8-10 years' experience in satellite or space systems engineering
- Strong background in satellite communications and payload architectures across LEO/MEO/GEO/HEO missions
- Experience with phased array antenna systems and digital beamforming
- Knowledge of digital regenerative payloads and onboard processing architectures
- Experience with satellite system design, HW/SW integration, and space communications architectures
- Familiarity with inter-satellite links and advanced payload concepts
- Experience in space qualification processes for complex systems
- Understanding of TT&C systems, satellite operations, and payload operations
- Experience with orbital analysis tools and systems modelling (e.g. STK or equivalent)
- Ability to work within multidisciplinary and international engineering teams
- Eligibility to work in Switzerland (Swiss or EU citizenship, or valid Swiss work permit required)
Desirable Experience
- Previous involvement in ESA, NASA, or similar space agency programmes
- Experience with satellite operations environments, including TT&C, network management, and payload operations
- Exposure to end-to-end satellite programme lifecycles from concept through to in-orbit operations
Eligibility
- Swiss or EU citizenship, or valid Swiss work permit required
Benefits & conditions
- Opportunity to work on advanced satellite communications and space payload systems
- End-to-end involvement across system design, integration, testing, and in-orbit operations
- Exposure to complex international space programmes and multidisciplinary engineering teams
- High-impact technical role shaping next-generation satellite architectures
- Collaborative R&D environment focused on innovation in space communications systems
