Job description

We are seeking a proactive and technically skilled Field-Based IT Technician (L1/L2) to join our Education Support Team covering Bristol and North Somerset.

This role involves providing on-site and remote IT support to schools, alongside assisting with installations, upgrades, and project work. You will work closely with school staff, becoming a trusted extension of their internal team while delivering exceptional customer service and technical expertise.

The role is primarily field-based, with flexibility to work from home outside of scheduled site visits. You'll also receive support from our helpdesk and senior engineering teams when required.

Key ResponsibilitiesOn-Site Support

  • Conduct scheduled visits to schools to provide IT support and resolve logged tickets
  • Respond to emergency call-outs where required
  • Carry out IT installations and project work
  • Build strong relationships with school staff and key stakeholders
  • Ensure customers receive a responsive and professional service
  • Identify opportunities where additional Soltech IT services may add value

Remote Support

  • Provide remote troubleshooting and technical support via phone, email, and ticketing systems
  • Act as the primary contact for allocated customers
  • Perform system configuration changes and liaise with third-party providers
  • Maintain accurate documentation and update helpdesk records
  • Monitor systems proactively using remote monitoring tools
  • Manage backups, patching, and infrastructure maintenance with minimal disruption

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driving License license?, Do you have experience in Windows?, We are looking for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent communication and problem-solving skills., * Previous experience in an IT support role within:

  • a school or education environment,
  • a business IT support role, or
  • a managed service provider (MSP)
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS and safeguarding check

Technical Skills (Beneficial)

Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Windows desktop and server operating systems
  • Apple/macOS and iPad support
  • Microsoft 365, Azure, Intune, SharePoint, and Teams
  • Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Google Workspace, Chromebooks, and Google Classroom
  • Networking technologies including VPNs, VLANs, firewalls, switches, and Ubiquiti WiFi
  • Virtualisation platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V
  • SCCM and PowerShell scripting
  • JAMF or other Apple MDM platforms

You should be comfortable supporting a range of technologies across cloud, on-premise, and hybrid environments.
