Job description

The IS Advisor 1 - Video Evidence Systems Administrator position exercises senior technical and supervisory responsibility over the Police Department's Digital Evidence Management System and body-worn and in-car camera programs. The role carries accountability for the administration, operational integrity, and performance of the department's digital evidence technology infrastructure; the direct supervision and professional development of assigned technical staff; and the provision of expert technical consultation to department management and leadership.

Typical Duties

  • Leads the implementation, administration, and long-term stewardship of the Police Department's Digital Evidence Management System, maintaining accountability for platform reliability, performance, and operational integrity.

  • Directs the installation, configuration management, and lifecycle support of body-worn camera and in-car camera systems, peripheral equipment, and associated software deployed across the department.

  • Performs advanced diagnostic troubleshooting of network and computing systems, prioritizing remote resolution to maintain service continuity with minimal operational disruption.

  • Provides technical design and oversight for the department's network communications technologies in support of digital evidence operations.

  • Administers application security controls across the digital evidence platform, conducts periodic audits and compliance reviews, and prepares written risk assessments with prioritized recommendations for leadership consideration.

  • Supervises a team of technical professionals, exercising supervisory authority including performance evaluation, workload assignment, disciplinary action, and participation in hiring and personnel decisions.

  • Engages regularly with internal customers and departmental stakeholders to assess technology needs, define requirements, and ensure that systems and services are aligned with operational objectives.

  • Conducts feasibility analyses and develops cost estimates to support leadership in evaluating technology investments and making sound, informed decisions.

  • Provides technical consultation to department management and senior leadership on emerging technologies, industry developments, and strategic considerations relevant to public safety information technology.

  • Develops and maintains comprehensive system documentation and end-user training materials that meet departmental standards for clarity, accuracy, and accessibility.

  • Participates in the broader operations of Police Department information technology services as directed, contributing subject matter expertise and leadership support across functional areas as required.

  • Responsible for installing and maintaining mobile video equipment at multiple off site locations and for attending off site meetings, trainings, and conferences related to video evidence management and technology operations.

Requirements

Five (5) years of experience in information technology services.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of video management systems, body-worn and in-car camera technologies, network video recorders (NVRs), and network communications infrastructure, including best practices for implementation, configuration, and ongoing support.

  • Knowledge of information technology disciplines within an enterprise IT environment, including systems administration, network architecture, and application management.
