EXAMPLE OF DUTIES General Statement of Duties: The Computer Electronic Technician 2 is primarily responsible for performing various duties involving electrical/electronic work on traffic signal equipment. An employee in this classification works under the direct supervision of the Computer Electronic Specialist and the general supervision of the Traffic Engineer and/or a designee. Distinguishing Features of the Class: Is responsible for performing skilled electrical/electronic work on traffic signal equipment and all other devices used in the control of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Examples of Work: Operates traffic signal vehicles and equipment. Excavates trenches for conduit, pull boxes, and splice boxes. Installs, maintains, and repairs all types of conduit, pull boxes, and splice boxes. Installs, maintains, and repairs all types of overhead and underground traffic signal cable and wire. Installs, maintains, and repairs all types of poles including mast arms and pedestals. Assembles, installs, maintains, and repairs all types of traffic signal controllers, heads, loops, loop detectors, and all other related electrical/electronic devices used in the control of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Assembles, installs, maintains, and repairs all types of traffic signal communication and emergency preemption equipment. Removes all types of traffic signal, communication, and emergency pre-emption equipment including poles, mast arms, pedestals, controllers, heads, loops, loop detectors, conduit, pull boxes, splice boxes, cable, and wire. Inspects and tests traffic signal installation work for conformance with plans and specifications. Performs field tests on traffic signal equipment and all other traffic control devices. Performs emergency repair work on traffic signal equipment and all other traffic control devices. Performs work from schematics, wiring diagrams, plans, and specifications. Maintains written reports on the work performed including the time, equipment, and materials used to complete the work. Maintains a clean, orderly work area in the office and in the departmental vehicles. Other related duties, not listed but consistent with and similar in nature to the above examples, may also be required. Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities: Some knowledge of the City's traffic signal system. Some knowledge of the principles and theories of electricity and electronics. Some knowledge of acceptable public relations and human relations practices. Some knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules and practices. Ability to read, write, and speak clearly. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to operate a computer terminal, including keyboarding skills. Ability to prepare reports. Ability to maintain records. Ability to read maps and determine directions. Ability to visually distinguish colors and shapes. Ability to diagnose trouble and to interpret complex schematics of electrical/electronic equipment. Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergencies. Ability to use common electrical and mechanical tools. Ability to use special signal tools and equipment. Ability to work in all types of weather conditions. Ability to climb ladders and work at varying heights. Ability to operate a two-way radio system. Ability to communicate with the general public and co-workers in a tactful and courteous manner. Acceptable Experience and Training: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent plus a two-year electrical/electronic technical degree or comparable education; two years of electrical/electronic experience in traffic signal equipment, or comparable experience in similar environment; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess a valid Ohio drivers license at all times.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION, act of Congress of the United States may file with the director a certificate of service or honorable discharge (DD-214 - Long version), and upon this filing, the person shall receive an additional credit of twenty percent (20%) of the person's total grade given in the examination in which the person receives a passing grade. A member in good standing of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States, including the Ohio National Guard, who successfully completes the member's initial entry-level training shall receive a credit of fifteen percent (15%) of the person's total grade given in the examination in which the person receives a passing grade.
