Job description
Support and maintain in-house computer systems, desktops, and peripherals. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware and equipment while ensuring optimal workstation performance. The person will also troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training and assistance where required. SUPERVISION: Works primarily independent requiring person to be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail. Supervision provided by the Lead Technician, IT Manager, the appointing authority, or a designee. May also supervise and provide direction to interns or like level of position., The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various type of work that may be performed. - Work with end users to identify and deliver required technical service levels.
- Liaise with, and provide training and support to, end users and staff on computer operation and other issues.
- Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end user workstation hardware, networked peripheral devices, and networking hardware products.
- Where required, install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot associated end user workstation software and networking software products.
- Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex computer problems for a variety of end users, and recommend and implement corrective hardware solutions, including off-site repair as needed.
- Receive and respond to incoming calls, pages, and/or e-mails regarding software and/or hardware problems.
- Maintain an inventory of all monitors, keyboards, hard drives, modems, printers, scanners, and other peripheral equipment.
- Monitor and test end user device performance and provide performance statistics and reports.
- Construct, install, and test customized configurations based on various platforms and operating systems.
- Assist and provide feedback with the evaluation of new technology products.
- If necessary, liaise with third-party support and equipment vendors.
- Performs any related work as requested to meet the needs of the Technology Center Department.
- May be assigned any other duties as related to assist department function., The work requires motor skills for activities such as keyboarding, filing, moving objects and using a variety of office equipment and tools. Visual Skills Visual demands require routinely reading documents for general understanding and analytical purposes. Requirements
Do you have a valid Driver's License license?, Do you have experience in Privacy law?, Do you have a Associate's degree?, * Excellent technical knowledge of network, PC and Apple hardware, tablet devices (iOS, Android, Chrome), current network protocols, operating systems, and standards.
- Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience (PC based, Apple, Android, Chrome).
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
- Ability to make logical decisions and exercise good judgment within City policies and procedures and Department goals and directives. Ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to understand and explain various types of reports to others. Ability to present ideas in business- and user-friendly language
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associates degree (BA preferred) in the field of computer science or other related field.
- Minimum of 3+ years' experience in helpdesk/desktop support
- Certifications in Microsoft Office Suite, CompTia A+ Technician or Network + preferred, but not necessary.
- Valid driver's license required
- A combination of education and experience will be considered., * Ability to operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories.
- Able to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and OEM guides.
- Understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure and time-sensitive environment. Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to conduct research into desktop/laptop issues and products as required.
- Ability to maintain good public relations, to maintain effective collaborative working relationships with City departments, department heads, fellow employees, officials, and general public, and to respond in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ability to understand and follow directions and take the initiative in completing assignments and projects as per deadlines. Must be detail oriented in all functions of the job. Must be able to handle discretionary matters.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Strong customer-service orientation.
- Operates a variety of office equipment as required including multi-line phone system, type-writers, photocopiers, facsimile machines, adding machines, computers, printers, scanners
- Such other related duties as required.
PHYSICAL, MOTOR, AND VISUAL SKILLS Physical Skills
- Work is generally conducted within multiple Municipal Building. Ability to travel between city and school buildings is required. Some travel outside of the city may be required. Position may require on-call availability and/or scheduling of work in evenings and/or weekends. Work involves lifting, moving, and/or transporting of heavy to moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals, up to 30 pounds. Position requires squatting, bending, kneeling, or getting into tight places to assist with computers and/or peripherals.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components, including tools.
