Job description
The Lead Data Architect provides enterprise-level leadership for data architecture, governance, and cloud data engineering initiatives. This role is responsible for defining data strategy, leading architecture standards, and managing large-scale data modernization efforts within an Azure-based ecosystem. The position oversees a team of data architects and ensures alignment of data platforms, models, and governance practices with organizational objectives and regulatory requirements., Enterprise Data Architecture Leadership
- Define and lead enterprise data architecture strategy, roadmap, and standards
- Oversee architecture across operational data stores, data warehouses, and data marts
- Ensure consistency across data models, schemas, and integration patterns
- Manage development of logical models, physical models, and source-to-target mappings
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of data architects and technical resources
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and quality oversight
- Allocate architectural resources across initiatives in coordination with program and project leadership
- Establish and enforce standards for data modeling, governance, and documentation
Data Governance & Quality
- Define and enforce data governance frameworks, metadata standards, and naming conventions
- Lead enterprise data quality initiatives including validation, traceability, and lineage tracking
- Ensure compliance with enterprise governance, security standards, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain consistency and quality across all data assets
Azure Cloud Data Engineering & Technical Strategy
- Guide design of enterprise cloud data platforms using Azure tools and services
- Provide technical leadership for ETL pipeline design, data processing, and architecture decisions
- Support optimization strategies for scalability, performance, and reliability
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to data architecture
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with business leadership, architects, engineering teams, and program stakeholders
- Participate in architecture reviews, solution design sessions, and project intake processes
- Promote adoption of data governance practices and data-driven decision-making across the organization
Documentation & Standards Compliance
- Ensure all architectural artifacts meet enterprise standards and documentation requirements
- Maintain documentation including data models, governance frameworks, and migration strategies
- Review and approve technical deliverables produced by the data architecture team
Requirements
Do you have experience in Technology management?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
- 7 or more years of experience managing enterprise data architecture or large-scale data engineering initiatives
- Strong leadership experience managing data architects or technical architecture teams
- Strong expertise with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, and Azure Purview
- 7 or more years of experience in ETL development, data engineering, or data architecture
- Strong experience with Spark, Python, Scala, and large-scale data processing frameworks
- Advanced SQL expertise across complex enterprise data environments
- Strong understanding of data governance, security protocols, Azure RBAC, and compliance frameworks
- Proven experience designing scalable data pipelines and cloud data architectures
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS data warehouse solutions including S3 or DataSync
- Familiarity with compliance requirements such as criminal justice data, healthcare data, or personally identifiable information
- Microsoft Azure certifications or Databricks certifications
