Job description

This is a supervisory position involving responsibility for supervising and coordinating the technology activities, budgeting, and staffing of an educational organization. Work includes supervision of several staff members and budget responsibility, implementing the organization's technology plan, coordinating technology applications with instructional goals, planning for comprehensive training programs, and insuring a smooth and efficient operation of the organization's network. Employees in this class work with extensive independence in formulating and implementing various work methods. Work is performed under the broad direction of the GST BOCES Computer Services Center Director. Work is performed under the broad direction of the GST BOCES Computer Services Center Director. A working knowledge of student management systems, school financial and human resources systems, and state and federal data reporting requirements is preferred.

The following work activities are listed as examples only and in no event shall an employee be limited to only those examples listed here:

  • Supervises several staff members and technical assistance on computer applications
  • Develops and assists in the planning and implementation of school district, building and BOCES technical networking systems
  • In collaboration with district employees, the candidate develops and coordinates implementation of the organization's technology plan based on instructional and administrative needs in relation to the organization's strategic goals
  • Prepares and submits required/appropriate reports
  • Reviews and updates acquisition procedures and maintains an inventory of computer/technology related equipment
  • Organizes training and awareness sessions on the use of software applications and hardware technology
  • Assists in the integration of technology applications in K-12 curriculum
  • Chairs technology committees
  • Acts as liaison between the organization's staff and technology vendors, making recommendations for purchases
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Vendor relationship building?, Do you have a Associate's degree?, This is a competitive Civil Service position. The selected candidate must possess this title or be among the top three of a current, binding Civil Service list for the title or if no binding Civil Service list be in the top three after taking the required Civil Service exam for the title., * Bachelor's degree and one-year administrative experience in budgeting and supervision as well as one year experience in the use of technology as it relates to computer hardware and software in an environment of networked microcomputers; OR

  • Associate's degree and one year administrative experience in budgeting and supervision as well as three (3) years' experience in the use of technology as it relates to computer hardware and software in an environment of networked microcomputers; OR
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
