Job description
The Systems Administrator is responsible for providing comprehensive system administration support for enterprise environments operating on both NIPRNet and SIPRNet. This role ensures the availability, security, performance, and compliance of all supported hardware, operating systems, core services, and applications in support of mission-critical operations.
Working as part of an integrated technical team, the Systems Administrator performs advanced troubleshooting, system maintenance, and configuration management while ensuring compliance with Department of Defense (DoD), Army, and DISA security requirements. The position requires prompt incident response, technical coordination with multiple stakeholders, and detailed documentation to support accreditation, audits, and continuity of operations., * System Administration of Active Directory
- Administer and maintain Active Directory (AD) environments, including organizational unit (OU) structures, to support operational and security requirements.
- Create, modify, disable, and delete user and computer accounts in accordance with access control and identity management policies.
- Manage security groups, permissions, and role-based access controls.
- Design, implement, and maintain Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to enforce security baselines, configuration standards, and system hardening requirements.
Installation, Maintenance and Operation of Server Platforms
- Install, configure, and maintain Army-approved server operating systems.
- Diagnose and resolve software and hardware conflicts for host operating system.
- Review server event logs to identify abnormalities or diagnosis.
- Monitor and optimize the performance of the server processes.
- Provide technical specifications for recommended hardware purchases and upgrades.
- Ensure server operating system meets all necessary service packs and patching levels.
- Configure and manage virtual servers using current SDDC virtualization environment.
- Collaborate with application owners and users to resolve conflicts between operating system and hosted applications.
Installation, Maintenance and Operations of Core Services
- Configure and maintain DHCP server, to include configuration and maintenance of IP scopes.
- Configure and support SMTP services for any devices requiring "to" email capability.
- Provide full system administration of NAS/SAN storage devices, to include managing NTFS permissions, replicating data to disaster recovery site, troubleshooting client connectivity issues, upgrading firmware, monitoring logs, managing disk space allocations, provision, and provisioning, configuring, and maintaining volumes, CIFS shares, iSCSI LUNs, and NFS storage.
- Manage Army user account request process for Army 365 service on NIPR/SIPR.
- Administer Army NPE account request process for Army 365 service on NIPR/SIPR.
Trouble Ticketing System
- Monitor and resolve all system administration trouble tickets using the designated ticketing system.
- Respond to reported hardware or software incidents within 30 minutes during on-site hours and begin remediation within two (2) hours when on-call.
- Coordinate with internal and external teams and agencies to assist with non-assigned tickets.
Documentation
- Develop, maintain, and update comprehensive system administration documentation, including:
- System design descriptions
- Baseline hardware architecture diagrams
- Hardware and software configuration records
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Troubleshooting and recovery guides
- Maintain server-specific DISA STIG documentation required for system accreditation and authorization packages.
- Participate in periodic reviews, inspections, audits, and compliance assessments.
Requirements
Do you have experience in IT department experience?, * Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in information technology or systems administration roles.
- Active Secret (or above) Clearance.
Education & Work Experience
- Experience supporting DoD enterprise environments.
- Experience administering systems within NIPRNet and SIPRNet architectures.
Certifications
- Active Security+ CE or equivalent is required.
Physical Requirements
Employees must be able to sit at a workstation for extended periods of time. They should be able to use their hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, as well as reach with their hands and arms. The ability to talk, see, and hear is also required. Employees must be capable of working on a desktop or laptop computer for long durations. Occasionally, they may need to lift and move moderate amounts of weight, typically no more than 30 pounds. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
