Job description
We are currently seeking an experienced senior-level IT infrastructure professional to support a small federal agency's enterprise IT environment in Washington, DC. This is a hands-on, production-support role requiring daily administration of hybrid on-premises and cloud infrastructure with minimal supervision from federal staff.
The selected candidate will be the primary IT systems resource for the agency and is expected to operate independently, manage priorities, and deliver consistent results across a diverse technology stack. The environment is a hybrid Microsoft-centric infrastructure built on Cisco networking, VMware virtualization, Microsoft Azure, and Microsoft 365 - integrated via Azure Arc and Microsoft Entra ID. The agency has fewer than 150 users and fewer than 50 servers, with remote users distributed nationally.

What You'll Be Doing Day to Day
- Perform day-to-day administration of Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 and Linux server environments across on-premises and Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure
- Administer Microsoft Entra ID and on-premises Active Directory including conditional access policies, MFA integration, GPO management, user and group provisioning, and identity lifecycle operations
- Administer Microsoft 365 tenant including Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Teams; manage configurations, licensing, and integration with on-premises Active Directory
- Install, configure, test, and maintain servers, storage arrays, and related networking equipment in both on-premises and cloud environments
- Implement and manage patch management operations across Windows Server, Linux, and network infrastructure; apply OS updates and firmware on servers, storage systems, and Cisco networking equipment
- Administer endpoint management platforms (SCCM, Intune) for software deployment, device configuration, and compliance management across workstations and mobile devices
- Configure and maintain server hardening baselines; administer monitoring and alerting tools to maintain infrastructure health visibility across all critical IT resources
- Administer VMware virtualization infrastructure and Azure Arc-integrated hybrid cloud environment
- Manage SAN/NAS storage infrastructure including provisioning, capacity planning, and performance monitoring
- Design and maintain disaster recovery strategies; plan and execute DR exercises including failover validation and backup restoration testing
- Administer Cisco routing, switching, firewall, and VPN infrastructure supporting agency LAN and remote access
- Develop PowerShell scripts and automation workflows to streamline server provisioning, patch reporting, and recurring administrative operations
- Develop and maintain accurate systems documentation including SOPs, architecture diagrams, and configuration runbooks
- Evaluate current IT systems architecture and recommend corrective actions and operational improvements to agency leadership
- Apply knowledge of federal IT management principles including NIST guidelines and FISMA directives in day-to-day operations
- Participate in project team meetings and support integration of new systems with existing IT operations
Requirements
Do you have experience in iOS?, * Minimum 6 years of continuous, hands-on IT systems administration and infrastructure engineering experience - operational production support, not architecture or governance only

Demonstrated hands-on experience with VMware vSphere/vCenter in production federal or enterprise environments

Linux server administration - package management, service configuration, user/group admin, shell scripting, troubleshooting

Patch management - WSUS, Ivanti, RedHat Satellite or equivalent tools

SAN/NAS storage administration - LUN provisioning, capacity planning, performance monitoring

Disaster recovery - Veeam, SRM, or equivalent; experience executing DR exercises

PowerShell scripting for automation of administrative tasks

Ability to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust suitability determination

Ability to work onsite in Washington, DC Monday through Friday Preferred Qualifications

Prior federal government IT support experience - familiarity with FISMA, NIST SP 800-53, and federal IT operations

VMware certifications (VCP, VCAP) or Microsoft certifications (MCSA, Azure Administrator)

Experience with Azure Arc, Azure Monitor, and hybrid infrastructure management

Experience with SCCM / Microsoft Intune for enterprise endpoint management

Experience supporting Apple iOS device management in an enterprise environment

Ansible or similar automation tooling experience

ITIL Foundation certification or equivalent service management familiarity

Experience with SolarWinds or equivalent infrastructure monitoring platforms
