Job description
The Senior Software Engineer (DSS Lead) is the technical authority for the Air National Guard (ANG) Decision Support System (ANG DSS) portfolio - a suite of mission-critical, web-based tools supporting Manpower, Human Resources, Strategic Planning, Career Management, and Financial Management for ANGRC leadership and over 120,000 ANG stakeholders across 90 GSUs., * Lead development, refactoring, revision, and overhaul of ANG DSS web tools across the full portfolio.
- Execute up to Web Tool Overhauls, Web Tool Revisions, and Web Tool Enhancements.
- Architect and maintain functional process frameworks that facilitate end-to-end automation and streamline mission-critical workflows across High, Medium, and Low complexity tools.
- Develop and maintain standardized user interfaces ensuring consistent Look and Feel across all ANG DSS tools; submit and obtain COR approval for any deviations from UI standards.
- Check and remediate vulnerabilities in development code using Fortify (or approved equivalent) during and prior to acceptance testing; ensure 100% of code is tested before deployment with no critical defects.
- Lead scope-shaping sessions with ANGRC government stakeholders; classify each accepted requirement as WTE, WTR, or WTO; produce time-based, actionable POAMs for COR signature.
- Obtain COR approval prior to commencing any stakeholder requirement meetings; provide tool owners with signed acceptance documentation before activating any official launch, revision, or enhancement.
- Maintain 90%+ on-time POAM milestone completion rate; inform COR of anticipated delays due to complexity, change requests, Government delays, or technical barriers.
- Develop and execute test plans for all projects that change WBT functionality; perform load testing to ensure tools do not crash or become inoperable under loaded conditions (simultaneous user access, high-volume transactions, complex database queries).
- Serve as primary developer for the ANG DSS cloud refactoring and migration effort.
- Hold Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204) certification enabling direct deployment to Azure App Services, Azure Functions, and related PaaS services; own the application-layer cloud transition while the Cloud Architect owns infrastructure.
- Provide cost estimates for transition and operation of each ANG DSS tool in the cloud environment; support monthly/annual cloud upkeep cost reporting.
- Own all technical work on the Project Data System (PDS): the highest-rated complexity tool in the ANG DSS portfolio, classified High complexity with High level of effort and High frequency of effort, involving multiple concurrent meetings, requirements sessions, mockups, revisions, buildout, and testing.
- Maintain PDS documentation, user guides, and acceptance test forms; serve as the primary technical point of contact for PDS stakeholders.
- Mentor SE II Sr, SE II Mid, and Jr Developer team members; lead paired sprint execution on high-complexity stories; maintain shared code ownership policy and conduct bi-sprint code walkthroughs.
- Serve as backup to the Cloud Architect on Azure migration topics by virtue of AZ-204 certification; participate in quarterly joint architecture reviews.
Requirements
Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * 7+ years of full-stack web application development
- Minimum 3 years developing DoD or federal web applications
- Hands-on experience with at least three of: .NET/C#, ColdFusion, JavaScript (modern frameworks), Python, SQL
- Experience with DoD security requirements (STIG compliance, vulnerability scanning, ACAS)
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field
Security Clearance
- Active Secret (or above) Clearance
Required Certifications
- CompTIA CASP+ (current, active) AND Microsoft Azure Fundamentals AZ-900 or higher
Preferred Certifications
- Azure Developer Associate AZ-204, CompTIA Security+, ISTQB, AWS Solutions Architect
