Job description
The Senior Transmission Designer plays a key role in delivering high-quality transmission and power delivery designs using advanced 3D and BIM tools. This position focuses on creating, managing, and coordinating discipline-specific models and documentation for substation, transmission, and power distribution projects. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement and the opportunity to contribute to impactful infrastructure projects while working within an inclusive, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities

Work within a specific discipline with minimal direction from architects, engineers, or other technical professionals.

Take ownership of the discipline model and generate BIM elements based on the Level of Development (LOD) outlined in the Digital Delivery Plan (DDP) and project scope.

Create and maintain the discipline model, including systems, content, and overall digital delivery output for that discipline.

Use the designated 3D software to produce designs in accordance with the Digital Delivery requirements.

Apply an advanced understanding of architectural and engineering documentation and plan presentation for the discipline, and understand how the model interacts with other discipline models.

Accurately model BIM elements within the correct spatial constraints of the modeling environment using current 3D software tools.

Prepare detailed drawings, layouts, and diagrams of the design within the project scope, schedule, and budget using current 3D software.

Maintain the discipline model, including project information, coordinates, scales, orientations, scope boundaries, match-lines, views, and sheets.

Produce discipline-specific documentation with accurate annotations on all modeling output.

Monitor, improve, and maintain company standards and model health to ensure consistency and quality.

Coordinate the discipline design with other discipline models through design reviews and 3D coordination processes.

Execute all Digital Delivery requirements identified for the project.

Support substation, transmission, distribution, and power delivery design efforts through accurate drafting and modeling.

Collaborate effectively with project teams, sharing updates and resolving design coordination issues in a timely manner., This role operates in a professional office setting with a hybrid work arrangement. Team members typically work on-site in an office located in Phoenix, Tucson, or Albuquerque 2 to 3 times per week and work remotely from home on the remaining days. The work environment is collaborative and inclusive, with a strong focus on digital delivery and the use of current 3D software, BIM tools, 3D coordination platforms, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and standard document management systems. The position involves working at a computer for extended periods, participating in design reviews and coordination meetings, and adhering to standard professional office attire when on-site.
Requirements

Technical degree or a combination of education and related industry experience.

A minimum of 5 years of related industry experience.

Advanced skill level in 3D design software used for BIM and digital delivery.

Advanced skill level with 3D coordination tools for model integration and clash detection.

Proficiency with document management infrastructure to manage models and project documentation.

Competency with Microsoft Office products and common communication tools.

Advanced understanding of engineering or architectural concepts relevant to transmission and power delivery projects.

Knowledge of industry standards and practices, including discipline-specific codes and specifications.

Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational abilities.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with substation and substation design projects.

Background in electrical and power distribution design.

Experience in transmission and power delivery projects, including previous T&D or power experience.

Understanding of distribution design and substation engineering principles.

Proficiency with AutoCAD for drafting and design.

Proficiency with MicroStation for CAD and design work.

Hands-on experience with CAD and drafting for engineering projects.

Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Ability to commute to an office in Phoenix, Tucson, or Albuquerque 2 to 3 times per week, with the flexibility to work remotely on other days.
Benefits & conditions
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, AZ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $50.00/hr.
