Job description

The EPIC Operational Database Administrator (DBA) plays a key role in providing the highest quality of patient care while the patient is in at Union Health., The EPIC Operational Database Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance optimization of the EMR Operational Database (Chronicles and/or Clarity/Caboodle environments). This role ensures high availability, data integrity, security, and performance tuning for EMR's database systems, supporting the operational and clinical needs of the healthcare organization., + Install, configure, and maintain EMR's Chronicles database and related environments (Clarity/Caboodle, if applicable).

  • Monitor database performance and proactively implement optimizations.

  • Perform capacity planning, backups, recovery, and disaster recovery testing.

  • Manage user access, roles, and permissions following organizational policies.

  • Ensure databases meet HIPAA, HITRUST, and other regulatory compliance standards.

  • Apply security patches and updates to ensure data protection.

  • Collaborate with EMR application teams to support upgrades, releases, and troubleshooting.

  • Participate in go-live planning and ongoing optimization of EMR modules.

  • Develop scripts and tools to automate routine database tasks and reporting.

  • Work with DevOps or infrastructure teams to streamline deployments and monitoring.

  • Provide 24/7 on-call support for critical database operations (on a rotational basis).

  • Troubleshoot and resolve database issues impacting EMR system performance.

  • Work closely with clinical, reporting, and infrastructure teams.

  • Maintain detailed documentation of configurations, policies, and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in database administration, with at least 1 year supporting EMR systems preferred.

  • EMR Chronicles and/or Clarity/Caboodle database experience preferred.

  • Strong SQL skills and experience with relational database systems (e.g., Oracle, MS SQL Server).

  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux server environments and scripting (e.g., Bash, PowerShell).

  • Obtain EMR certification in Chronicles, Clarity, or Caboodle DBA or willing to complete within 90 days of hire.

  • Experience with enterprise backup and monitoring tools.

  • Knowledge of healthcare operations, EHR systems, and HL7 standards.

  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving

  • Attention to detail and accuracy

  • Effective communication and teamwork

  • Windows and Linux server experience required.

  • Vmware experience required.

  • TCP/IP networking experience required.

  • Veeam backup experience required.
